First 3D Printer
Today I’m sharing more about our first 3D Printer specifically designed for students and beginners.
I remember when my two boys were very little, we went into Boston on the train, and I was so excited to show them some 3D printers they had on Newbury Street. We stood in the small boutique and watched as 3D models were magically created before our eyes. At that time I would not have believed we could possibly have an amazing 3D printer in our own home. That’s why we were all so excited to receive an email from my friends at Monoprice asking if we’d be interested in trying their printer.
This post is sponsored by Monoprice. I was sent a 3D Printer to review. All thoughts and opinions shared are my own.

The Best 3D Printer for Beginners
We were sent the Monoprice 3D Cadet.
Here are a few reasons we loved it right away:
- It is the best 3D printer for beginners and students.
- There is no assembly required and you can start printing straight out of the box.
- There’s a special safety guard that comes down to protect little hands and fingers.
- The Cadet comes with everything you need to start printing – glue stick, filament, instructions, and an SD card with some fun plans.
In these uncertain times, and with the kids mostly at home, I thought the Cadet would be a great way to supplement their learning. It’s a great piece of technology to have at home. We’ve created figures, kitchen gadgets, and scientific devices. It’s mesmerizing to watch the 3D printer in the print process.
I actually created a little video so you can see the Cadet in action and some of the projects we created:
What We’re Printing
The first project we did were ones on the SD card that came with the printer. The Lucky Cat is so cute and perfect to sit on a child’s desk.
You all know how much Conor loves to cook so kitchen utensils were high on the list.
3D Printed Chopstick Helpers
He loves ramen so we printed some chopstick helpers in his favorite color – blue!
So fun seeing this technology in action.
3D Printed Egg Separator
Conor loves making omelettes and angel food cake. Separating all those eggs can be a pain. That’s why we printed an egg separator. This works so well and you can download plans here.
The filament is safe for food grade but does have small pores so it’s recommended to seal with resin to prevent any bacteria from forming.
3D Printed Catapult
Conor loves tanks and army guys and catapults. We shrunk down this catapult so he could do a mini one. Since taking these photos he’s also done a larger one.
The boys are really excited to create more with the Cadet. John, being artistic, is trying to draw up some plans to create little characters to print. I’ll keep you posted on his progress.
If you’re looking for some great 3D plans – Thingiverse has great ones!
The kids are so excited to have their very own 3D printer that’s easy to use. The Cadet makes STEAM and creating at home so much fun. A huge thank you to Monoprice for sending us this great 3D printer to try.
