Flow of Home Tour
Today is a special tour where you will get to see the actual flow of our home. What room leads to where and quirky old house charm. Read on for our Flow of Home Tour.
Welcome to our little home by the sea. If you’re new and this is your first visit we live in a 1927 Dutch Colonial in Scituate Harbor, on Boston’s South Shore.
Seeing as it is winter, I thought I’d share a snowy photo. We currently don’t have any snow – this photo was taken last February.
Anyway, my good friend, Jennifer, over at Town & Country Living came up with the idea for this hop and I love the idea. It’s so fun seeing inside people’s homes.
Well, come on in and see our home:
Oh, our front door and shutters is painted in Benjamin Moore’s Buxton Blue in high gloss. I always get asked about it.
Front Hall
As soon as you walk through our front door you come into our front hall. We just refreshed this space last fall.
Can you believe that beautiful “tile” is actually a floor cloth.
It was on this very spot that I fell IN LOVE with our home nearly 7 years ago. I knew I wanted to live here forever. If you walk straight when you come into our home, you’ll end up in the kitchen. If you go left you’ll go up the stairs and if you go right you’ll be standing in our living room.
That’s a view of our front hall from the kitchen looking at the front door. Oh, that’s my hubby. He’s talking to our dogs, Max and Poppy, in this photo.
Let’s go into the living room.
Living Room
Our living room is long and narrow. So we’ve created two zones. A reading area by the fireplace and and lounging area by the TV.
The mantel is original but we redid the fireplace facing and hearth.
The fish print was created by my friend, Jeanne, who actually grew up in this home. You can read more about that here.
I love this built in cabinet. I think it was for wood but we store files and albums in here.
Through the french door is our kids’ playroom. Perhaps, I should take you in there now and then we’ll take a look at the dining room.
The Playroom
We redid the playroom last year. It was so nice to be able to add some grown up furniture for our boys’ space. This room gets so much light. We refreshed the room with fresh white paint on bookshelves and walls.
John and Conor really enjoy this space, whether it’s to read, play video games, do puzzles, or play their instruments. It’s currently a huge mess because they’ve been off on February break. I have a few updates to share with you soon.
You can see there are two french doors that lead to the playroom from the living room and dining room.
Okay let’s walk back into the living room and I’ll show you how it opens into the dining room.
Dining Room
Our living room and dining room are open plan and open onto each other with these period columns.
I love the dark woodwork in our home. We lightened all the wall colors over the past 7 years to highlight the richness of the wood.
The Welsh Dresser is antique I found on Facebook yard sale. The blue cabinet was a yard sale find which I painted.
Here’s how the room looked decorated for the holidays:
This is a view of the dining room from our kitchen:
Tiny Bathroom
Just inside the kitchen we have a teeny tiny bathroom, with a corner sink and corner toilet. It used to the the pantry and a previous owner converted it to a bathroom.
I added the “WC” to the door because my hubby is English 😉
It’s a pretty small space so hard to get a good photo:
My husband built me this cabinet for all my laundry supplies.
I’m actually hoping to remove this bathroom and make it part of the kitchen, so we can have a better flow in our kitchen.
Kitchen
Our kitchen has 4 doorways, a peninsula, a teeny island from Ikea, and the fridge in the back hall. So there’s a lot I would love to change in here, BUT this is what I currently have to work with.
We’ve made small changes – painting the walls, cabinets, stick on subway tile, new hardware, runners etc, but in time we’re hoping to do a big kitchen remodel. So, if any companies want to work with us. I kid, but honestly would love the help!!!! 😉
EVERYTHING happens in the kitchen. From Conor’s pizza nights.
To John’s studio sessions:
Every inch of our home gets used. 😉
Through the back door is our sunroom. It’s a three-season room but we’d love to turn it into an all year space.
I painted the floors our here and it made such a huge difference to the space. The mid century chairs were also new.
To give you an idea – this is the sunroom from outside:
Boy, I can’t wait for summer and pool weather!!!
Okay, let’s go upstairs and see the rest of our home.
This is a cool view of the front hall from the stairs.
My husband’s office is right at the top of the stairs.
Home Office
My husband works from home and his office is right behind this area – at the top of the stairs.
We painted the walls a moody blue green and added some masculine accents.
Upstairs Hallway
This isn’t the best photo (it’s old) but all the rooms run off our long upstairs hallway. The first door on the left is the bathroom, the boys room on the right, then the guest room on the left and our bedroom straight down the hall. Our bedroom was actually an addition by a previous owner and the house ended at our doorway. Part of the hall used to be the guest room and the kids’ bedroom was the original master bedroom.
Bathroom
We only have one full bathroom in our home which we share with our kids. We updated this space in the fall with some paint and coastal elements.
Next up down the hall is the boys’ bedroom which they share.
Boys’ Bedroom
Their bedroom is very much coastal in theme.
Since dong their room over and replacing the ceiling. I’ve added new lighting and a new rug.
Guest Room
Our guest room is going through a little transition as I’m redoing it, but this is what it looked like before the holidays. A few years ago I converted the space to a multi-purpose room for work and guests.
Master Bedroom
The last stop on our “flow of home” tour is our bedroom. We redid our room completely a few years ago – adding board and batten and hardwood floors. I really love how serene and relaxing our room feels.
I hope this gave you a better idea of the flow of our home! I sure enjoyed taking you on a tour! If you’re interested in any sources, you can find them here or leave a comment below.

I love your home with all of the beautiful wood trim. I found you through Worthing Court, but just love your style. I especially love that vinyl floor cloth. What a cool idea. I went back to your post about refreshing your entry. Do you have to be a designer to buy one of these? They are so cool looking.
Hi Andrea, Oh, thank you. We fell in love with all the beautiful wood trim the minute we saw it. We love the floorcloth and you don’t need to be a designer to order from them. Can’t wait to see the one you choose for your own home! xx
Oh Danielle, you’ve got the most beautiful home! I love that you’ve left the wood trim, it adds so much warmth and character!
It’s one of the features I love about our home. It makes it different and it’s also really beautiful wood that was milled up in Maine. We heard the first owner, who was a builder, hand selected each piece. A reader when we first moved in thought we should paint it…
Your home is beautiful !! Love, love the original woodwork ! Tasteful and clean…..and how do you do that?? Thank you for sharing your heart because that is what a “home” is all about.
Thank you! I think the key with original woodwork and wall color is finding colors that are clean and have a warm undertone. Perhaps, I should write a blog post on my favorite wall colors with natural wood trim. Totally agree – the heart and family is what makes a house a home xx
Seeing the lay out was fun, i have seen lots of pictures of it but sometimes got mixed up but now i won’t,lol! Of course i love your home it is a great place for you and your family, thank you so much.
I’m so glad this was helpful. I often wonder how our home looks and feels to people who have never been inside. We really love it here and are so glad our boys are growing up Scituate Harbor. xx
What a wonderful home! I loved taking a peak! Thanks!
Thank you for stopping by, Beth. So glad you could take the tour xx
Danielle! I didn’t think it was possible to love your home more than I already do! I just pinned a bunch of images! I know you want to redo your kitchen, but I love it just like it is. I’m sure your upcoming changes will be spectacular. Your home is one of my favorites!!
Danielle, thanks for the tour. I’ve always wondered what the the entire home flow looked like. It’s lovely and your use of light paint and dark moldings is perfect.
Pinned!
