Conor running to Weir River Farm

Last week, I was lucky enough to spend a few hours at Weir River Farm in Hingham with my 2 year old.   Weir River Farm is a 75-acre working farm made up of fields and pastures surrounded by oak and red cedar woodlands. Conor was so excited to join his Little People class and explore all the farm had to offer.  He didn’t walk, but ran in his wellies all the way down the hill to all the animals!

Where he proceeded to run between all the animals, saying a quick hello to each.
To the month old piglets:
Conor and the pigs

Aren’t they the cutest?  I particularly have a fondness for pigs because my mom used to take me to visit some each week in Andover when I was little.

Two little piggies
A hi to the horses, then off to the goats.  A little gaze over at the sheep who were standing still.  Then it was off to see the cows in the field:

Who were happily munching on grass.  Then, it was off to see the chickens.  Conor kept doing his rooster impressions.  Saying, “Cock-a-Doodle-Doo”.  Mr. C was having all sorts of fun, zigging and zagging across the farm.
The weather that morning was perfect.  We’d had rain several days before our visit and to be outside in nature was wonderful.  After we saw all the animals and Conor was tuckered out, we walked the many trails in the forest abutting the farm.  We came across an over-grown garden with huge rhododendrons, low growing butter cups and lilies.  We found what looked like an old well and some very old grave stones.  A pond with lily pads and, I’m sure, many frogs.
All was quiet in the deep, dark wood.  To see the world through a child’s eyes, filled with optimism and wonder is such an incredible gift.  I am so very grateful I got to savor these special moments of Conor’s first trip to Weir River Farm.  We’re looking forward to our next return.

We have a place similar to this called Fisher’s Farm. All kids should visit a place with farm animals. They were only saying on the radio today, how many teenagers don’t know where eggs, or bacon come from ! I guess so many children only ever see food arrive in packets !!
Looks like a lovely day out.
