French Vintage Decor Book (and a giveaway)
French Vintage Decor is timeless and my friend Jamie has a lovely new book with easy French inspired projects for the home.
I love France. I’ve gone several times now. Luke and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary and we’ve rented villas in the French countryside with his family. It is a beautiful country filled with delicious breads, wines and cheeses. I LOVE the rustic elegance of it’s decor too.

This is my friend Jamie:
You might know her from her beautiful blog, So Much Better With Age. I’ve been friends with Jamie since we shared a cab at the very first Haven Conference I went to. I think that was 6 years ago now. Anyway, she has written the most beautiful French inspired home decor and craft book and she’s generously offered to giveaway a signed copy to one lucky reader. See the end of the post to enter.
Within the pages of French Vintage Decor you will find gorgeous photography of France and Jamie’s home but also 70 easy and elegant projects to give your home some French character.
There are so many projects I’m excited to try. I want to make the aged mirrors, DIY Concrete Bowl, Plaster Dipped Flowers and Vintage Labels on Brown Bottles. She also has a whole section devoted to French inspired furniture. I think you guys are gonna love the book!
I couldn’t resist trying a one of her projects and sharing it here on the blog. In the book Jamie has s tutorial for a drill bit holder with dried lavender.
It is gorgeous and reminded me a lot of the vintage sugar moulds I was eyeing at a vintage market last fall. The price tag on the moulds was around $50 so I didn’t buy them. I thought it would be fun to put a coastal spin on her drill bit holder.
Rustic Drill Bit Holder
This project was so easy and took maybe 15 minutes.
Materials
- 3 inch piece of 2 x 12 board (Jamie used a 2 x 10)
- Pencil
- Tape Measure
- Drill Press (Jamie used a drill)
- 1/2 inch Brad Point Drill Bit
- Sander
- Stain (I used Homestead House’s Cappuccino)
- Greenery (Jamie used dried lavender)
Method
Draw a line on the center of the top and mark through the center line at every inch.
Use a drill press to create the holes. We used a 1/2 inch brad point drill bit. Jamie does it slightly differently in the book.
Sand the corners to round it out a bit and sand everywhere for smooth finish.
I used Homestead House’s stain in Cappuccino. This stain is a stain and finishing oil in one.
Stain the wood and let it dry overnight.
I thought it would try it out in a coastal way in our sunroom:
I love decorating with old found objects and wooden stamps and old spools. If I didn’t know better, this rustic drill bit holder could be the real thing!
Max doesn’t seem impressed, but was trying to steal shells.
Jamie used dried lavender in hers which looks so pretty. I love using fresh greenery in our home so I clipped some privet from our yard to try with it.
This would also be really pretty on an outdoor table for a summer decoration with gauze and shells scattered across the table.
I hope you enjoyed this little DIY with a coastal spin.
I think you’ll love Jamie’s book, too. You can order a copy here.

Lovely. n If you drill the holes just a bit larger, you can put plastic flower water tubes in it and use it for live blooms too.

I’m going to be kind to myself and simply leave it at “My decor abilities are minimal, and I could use some help.”
: ) Also, I find it so interesting how one can change. I have to say, 20 years ago, this would absolutely NOT have been a style I would aspire to – but now……yes please!
