Favorite Part of Summer So far…
I think my favorite so far this summer is the chance to travel with the boys. We stopped in Paris and I shared all about that read about our four days in Paris! Our favorite was Le Coulée Vert – a garden on an old abandoned train line.
We then met the English and Australian parts of our family in Spain in a villa we rented. It was amazing. I’m going to write a whole post about it, but I think our two week trip to see family has to be a highlight of the summer and year for us. This was the villa and this is our family:
Our sons don’t get to see their cousins, aunts and uncles or their Nanny very often due to the distance but this really was so amazing!
Favorite Books
For our trip I read Paris in Stride which is a lovely walking tour illustrated with watercolors. It really is a beautiful book. It’s currently on sale!
While we were away, I read Book Lovers by Emily Henry. If you like Rom-Coms this one is for you! It’s about a literary agent who doesn’t like literary tropes or romantic comedies. Very funny and light. I’ve heard The People We Meet on Vacation is good, it’s by the same author.
I just finished One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid and couldn’t put this one down. It’s witty and unpredicatable. I fell in love with all the characters in the book. A great love story!
Favorite Clothes
For our trip I picked up a few things. You may have seen this outfits on Instagram or in my Paris post.
This jumpsuit is so cool and is currently on sale, perfect for hot sticky weather!
I also got some wide leg trousers and love them. I’m actually thinking of getting another pair.
You might also like the striped shirt and the flip flops – I walked all over Paris in them!
Favorite TV
We’re, of course, loving the second season of Only Murders in the Building what a fantastic show!
While Luke was sailing with the guys I watched Halftime on Netflix. It’s the Jennifer Lopez documentary and it was fascinating to watch. She really works so hard and is very talented.
Last week, I started watching the documentary on Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward – The Last Movie Stars. It’s directed by Ethan Hawke and is on HBOmax. I’ve enjoyed so many of Paul Newman’s films but didn’t know much about the actor and think it’s fascinating. Current actors narrate letters and writings by Paul and Joanne.
Escape to the Country – we watch this show most nights. I love seeing all the homes and all the different parts of England. We watch it on Amazon Prime.
Favorite Travel Paints
I took paints and watercolor paper with me on our trip. I painted on the train from Paris to Barcelona and painted at the villa too.
This travel palette by Winsor and Newton was wonderful because it’s quite compact and comes with a brush, pencil and kneaded eraser.
I also invested in a Moleskin Travel Journal – this one is very similar to what I bought but the dimensions are different. The paper quality is so thick and you can really wet it and not worry about buckling.
Here’s a list of all my travel supplies:
- Travel palette
- Moleskin journal
- Glass Yogurt Pot – from Paris for water
- Bamboo Roll for brushes
- Brushes
- Watercolor Postcards
- Pencil Case
Well, I think that covers all my favorites! Hope you enjoyed this installment of Friday Favorites! Now, it’s your turn! What are the things you’re loving right now?

So glad you loved your trip. Great pics as usual. Paris is a special place and good memories with the family for you! Were your sandals great for lots of walking? Enjoy the rest of the fleeting summer Danielle!
Hi Elaine, It really was such a lovely trip. We feel so lucky we got to experience that beautiful city with our boys 😉 We walked A LOT in Paris – one day 10 miles, the next 12 and the last 14 1/2. I wore this same style of flip flopping walking around California. It’s supportive but isn’t as supportive as Birkenstocks or hiking sandals. I know I wish we could pause summer so it could last longer. xx
I love the family picture! Great idea! I also love Only Murders in the Building! I am always anxious for the next one to come out!
Hi Pamela, we had fun taking some family photos while at the villa. Oh, my gosh, we love Only Murders. We were on the edge of our seats the other night watching it.
Hi Danielle. Your vacation sounds lovely!!
I recently read 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Malibu Rising. Both by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I really liked them both. I also read People we meet on Vacation (while I was on vacation) and hated it! I may try Book Lovers, but want to wait a while.
Was it you who recommended Lucy Foley? I found the name on my list of books to consider and didn’t remember who suggested her.
Enjoy the last few weeks of summer!
Elyse
Hi Elyse, I loved both 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Malibu Rising. I really enjoyed The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley. I’ve read three of her books but enjoyed that one the most. Other books I’ve loved are The Giver of Stars by JoJo Moyes about the Pack Horse librarians in rural Kentucky. Also enjoyed Me Before You by the same author. I loved Where The Crawdads Sing and look forward to seeing that on the big screen. I also really loved Anthony Doerr’s writing – All the Light We Cannot See and his new one is Cloud Cuckoo… Read more »
hi danielle, i’m thoroughly enjoying reading about your paris, barcelona trip. several yrs ago we did the exact same 2 cities and included balboa just to tour the Guggenheim museum. my question is about the striped old navy shirt . what size are you wearing? i ordered on in lg. after reading your blog but it looks so much smaller than the one you’re wearing and i’m on 5’1″. it’s much shorter in comparison to yours. i so love getting emails from your blog about new postings. thank you so much!
Your trip sounded lovely, Deb. I’m wearing a medium in that striped shirt and also just ordered it in navy and cream striped. Hmmm. I’m wondering why it looks so much shorter on you. I am 5 feet tall and the medium isn’t short at all. The trousers are high waisted as well. Hope that helps!
