Favorite Magazine
If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook then you may have already seen this…
John and I are featured in the current issue of Yankee Magazine.
I am a New Englander so being featured in a magazine synonymous with the place I love so much truly is a dream come true. It means even more that John’s work is highlighted too.
A huge thank you to Annie Graves for writing such a heartfelt article. She really seemed to understand my connection to Scituate, my old home, and my family. She writes, “…the other inspiration for Driscoll resides not down the street where masts bob in the harbor and sea gulls hunker on salt-soaked piers – it’s right here, at home.”
I also want to thank Joe Keller who spent the day in our sun-filled studio taking photos of our work.
I initially met Kate Hathaway Weeks at the New England Coastal Creative Conference back in March and Annie and Joe came last fall for the interview and photos.
The current issue is available on newsstands and they also have a virtual copy online. The issue is filled with fun activities for winter.
I am overwhelmed by the kind comments friends have left on social media. xx
Favorite Books
I just finished The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. This isn’t a new book. It came out in 2012. I fell madly in love with Erin’s magical circus world. If you’re looking for just the right book to get lost in, I think this is it!
I just started reading Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid and I’m looking forward to reading Prince Harry’s autobiography Spare.
Favorite Paints
I’m sad to say I haven’t pulled out my watercolor paints for a few weeks but I’m hoping to paint some more today or this weekend. The boys gave me this beautiful set of Kuratake Gansai Tambi paints for Christmas.
Look at all those pretty colors. I actually have a smaller set of 12 colors by them and am so excited to try some of these new colors – there are 36 in this set.
The brush pictured is one of my favorites. It’s a squirrel mop brush (which is very expensive), you can see a full break down of all the paint brushes I love. You can see more art supplies I love.
More about Gansai Tambi
I usually use tubes of paint for watercolors but I love the saturated colors of Kuretake. These are traditional Japanese pan watercolors and they can be used as a gouache so more opaque or they can become more transparent by adding more water for dilution. They are great for illustration.
Favorite TV & Movies
Lately, we’ve been enjoying so much on the TV from shows to films.
Harry and Meghan – We have one more episode left to watch of this documentary produced by Harry and Meghan to give their side of the story. I can’t imagine trying to live under such a high profile or under so much media scrutiny. This is on Netflix.
Three Pines – A mystery series on Amazon Prime. Alfred Molina is amazing and we’re loving the story.
Amsterdam – A mystery film with a start studded cast. Everyone is brilliant but so is the writing, the sets and costumes. We LOVED this film.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery – We, of course, had to watch this film the day it came out. We loved the first Knives Out. This is slightly different but still has Benoit Blanc. It kept us guessing right to the very end. Brilliant! This is on Netflix.
Favorite Scissors
I wrap all my orders and splurged on new scissors from Italy specifically made for cutting paper. These came from the Paper Mouse in Newton which is such a lovely shop.
Favorite Clothes and Shoes
In winter I’m all about comfort. I recently treated myself to these Dansko clogs. I used to wear them in high school and college and I think they’ve come back IN again. Don’t you love when that happens? I had this color in high school. These shoes are so comfortable particularly when you’re standing a lot. I bought them for markets and shows and we have a big wholesale one coming up in March in Maine, but they were perfect for all our holiday markets too.
I’m loving the boot cut jeans by Old Navy. I’m also a big fan of their waffle shirts for layering. They’re doing lots of sales right now!
Here are some cozy clothes I’m loving right now:
Favorite Products
New products will be coming out soon, but we still have a limited quantity of the 2023 desk calendars. If you had your heart set on one and didn’t get one for the holidays, I can get that shipped out to you pretty quickly.
I’m also adding more patterns to our Spoonflower shop.

Yankee magazine! That is impressive Danielle and John. You have worked for your success!
Hi Elaine, thank you so much for the kind words. You’ve been a blog reader for so long. I really appreciate your support. Happy New Year and lots of love, Danielle xx
Congratulations on being featured in the Yankee magazine. I didn’t know your husband was an artist too. I love your series where you interview other artists. Happy New Year!
Hi Kristie, Thank you! That’s actually our son John. My husband is a software engineer but also loves woodworking and hand crafts the stands for our desk calendars and has also made frames for us. Maybe I should bring back Creativity Over Coffee this year 😉 Happy New Year! xx
Hi Danielle,
Yay!!! For you and John!!! Awesome!!!
This is a great list of favorites…I have or done or seen almost all of them. Those paints are BEAUTIFUL. I will be waiting to hear how you like them. On “Harry and Megan”, I think as usual, there are two sides to every story…and there are a few tall tales within that story. I, too have worn Dansko’s they are great.
Happy, Healthy New Year to you and your family…mom too!!!
Thank you so much, Josette! It was fun being in the magazine together. So true. There are always two sides to a story. Hoping to swatch these out today but I have the smaller set which I love. Aren’t Dansko the best? Happy and healthy New Year to you too. xx
