Friday Favorites (37)

Friday Favorites is a series where I share my favorite hobbies, books, films, TV shows, style, and more!

We just had Luke’s mom, Jane, visiting from Cornwall for a few weeks and we had so much fun with her. So I realize the blog has been quiet, but have lots of fun books and activities we did with her to share!

I hope you’re all enjoying summer and some lazy days in the sunshine!

Favorite New Product

I just launched our NEW summer collection and I think one of my favorites from the new collection is our little crab list pad.

These pads are perfect for summer grocery shopping or bucket lists!

Favorite Day Trip

We love taking day trips to Newport, RI with the boys. From Scituate it’s not that long a drive. We thought it would be a lovely spot to bring Jane.

You may remember I shared about a day-trip here. We visited Green Animals back in the fall, see here. It was fun to see Green Animals in the summer with the roses in bloom.

Green Animals Garden

They also have a fun lego exhibit at the moment.

Green Animals Home

I think I want to try and paint these foxgloves. Don’t they remind you of fairies?

Jane loves tennis and Wimbledon so we went to the International Tennis Hall of Fame for the first time. We didn’t do a full tour but it was exciting to see where the first US Open took place.

Family at Tennis Hall of Fame

The grounds are absolutely beautiful.

In addition to those two places we also visited The Breakers, probably the most opulent of the Newport Mansions with such stunning gardens and views of the Cliff Walk.

We have a family membership to the Newport Mansions and love that we can visit multiple times in a year. I have a few more I want to visit this summer.

Favorite Films and TV

Oh my gosh, so much to share here!

Favorite Films –

We just saw Indiana Jones in the new reopened cinema – The Reel in Scituate Harbor. Growing up Indiana Jones was one of my all time favorites so brought back many childhood memories. It was wonderful to see it in the newly reopened cinema. We really missed having a movie theater in the harbor and so glad we can now walk to cinema from our home and enjoy a drink or dinner after! They’re currently showing Back to the Future and The Perfect Storm. Local friends, let’s support this amazing new cinema!

What We Did on Our Holiday – Set in Scotland with Billy Connelly, David Tennant, and Rosamund Pike and wonderful children actors (who made the film!). This movie was heart-warming, fun, and poignant. A look at things through the perspective of children and what is truly important.

Finding You – Lovely romantic comedy set in Ireland. This is light and fun if you’re in the mood for that type of film.

Love, Sarah – Set in London and is about a bakery and family coming together.

Favorite TV –

We just started watching HiJack with Idris Alba – gosh it’s stressful and we can’t look away! My jaw is clenched for the entire time the show is on.

Favorite Conversation

I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with Anca at Bicoastal Digest Magazine and we had a wonderful conversation about creativity, my creative journey with the blog and art, and I also shared all my New England Favorites. Read the full conversation – my New England Favorites are a the very end of the post.

We both have a love of New England coastal style and that modern coastal California style. In addition I thought I’d share Anca’s favorites of California.

You may remember we took a three week family road trip and visited many spot in California. See our road trip here. We only got to spend an afternoon in most of these spots, though.

Favorite Lobster Rolls

Summer means lobster rolls here in New England. I love making lobster rolls at home and have shared a few recipes. I like to get the lobster meat already cooked and prepared at Mullaney’s. My easy lobster rolls are fun. I also like making this light appetizer. Perfect for a light meal or appetizer for a summer party.

BUT having someone make you the perfect lobster roll with the view of the ocean is the BEST!

We took our moms for lobster rolls at Green Harbor Lobster Pound – you need to order ahead because they sell out and they only take cash. Their lobster rolls are amazing! I will say they’re pretty big – I probably could have split one with John.

We also really really love Lobster Rolls at TK O’Malley’s. We took Jane for one their on her very last day. You can’t beat the view of Scituate Harbor!

Favorite Books

I’ve been reading up a storm over here this month. Here’s what I’ve read –

The Paris Bookseller – a fascinating read set in the 1920s and tells the true story of Sylvia Beech’s Shakespeare and Company Bookstore in Paris. I wasn’t familiar with the history but it tells the tale of this ambitious woman, a time when censorship was rife, and also champions writers of the day. Great read!

Carrie Soto is Back – you guys all know how much I love Taylor Jenkins Reid’s books, but this one I read in three days. I couldn’t put it down. It’s about Carrie Soto, a record breaking tennis player, and her comeback. I LOVED it!

Thursday Murder Club – Another quick read for the murder and mystery lover. The Thursday Murder club is a group of pensioners in a retirement community in England solving murders. I can totally see this being made into a TV show.

I’m now reading The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and so far it’s fabulous. I also just bought my friend Kristy’s new book – Summer of Songbirds. I am truly so happy for Kristy! Her book just launched the other day and she’s on a big book tour. She was just interviewed by Elin Hilderbrand in Nantucket. Yay! Kristy!

New Favorite Shop

The Root just opened in Scituate on First Parish Road. It’s a combination of a nursery / green house / garden center + a beautiful destination for classes and gatherings.

Garden Center

It definitely has a mix of New England and California style. It feels so calm there. I’m going back to get plants for our front window boxes once the trim is finished on our exterior. I’ll be sure to share the update when it’s done.

Look at all these gorgeous succulents. I may have brought home a few…

Where can we watch the movie “What We Did On Our Holiday”? Did you find it on Netflix or Hulu. I only see the trailer on Youtube. Thanks 🙂
