Friday Favorites (40)

Friday Favorites is a series where I share my favorite hobbies, books, films, TV shows, style, and more! I have so many favorites to share this month from short getaways to apparel to books and lots of fun TV.

I’m writing this post sitting on my back patio in the sunshine. I can’t believe it’s the end of October and I’m sitting in the sunshine in 78º weather! I’m not complaining!

Favorite Trip

We packed up the boys and dogs and headed for our first family getaway to Martha’s Vineyard. I shared highlights from the Martha’s Vineyard trip here. It was our first time staying overnight on the island as a family and the first time we’ve taken our dogs away with us. We LOVED it so much, especially the cottage in Menemsha we stayed in. This was the view from the cottage:

Favorite Books

I just finished Lessons in Chemistry and loved it! I first learned about it from a commerical for the series with Brie Larsen so was intrigued. Then I found out that the author, Betty Garmus, was 64 when the book was published (her first novel) and it had been rejected 98 times by literary agents. I’m grateful that someone decided to publish this book. I highly recommend it. The story is about Elizabeth Zott a chemist in the 1950s and 60s. It’s wonderful. So far we’ve watched one episode of the TV show and it’s well done but they’ve changed a lot.

I just started reading  The Hotel Nantucket by Elin Hilderbrand. Eventhough its the end of October it still feels summery here.

Favorite New Product

You guys are loving the Mushroom Lovers Collection as much as I am! I shared how to use the stickers here. You can see the full mushroom collection.

Favorite Slippers

My mom just gave me these cozy slippers and they’re so soft and warm! I love them. This is a floor cloth and you can read more about our favorite floor coverings here.

Favorite TV / Films

Growing up in the 80s and 90s, I used to read all the fashion magazines, so I absolutely loved seeing The Super Models on Apple TV. It’s a four part documentary and so fascinating.

I had my first colonoscopy on Monday and while I was resting on the couch I watched a few episodes of Beckham (a four part documentary on Netflix). I didn’t know much about David and Victoria Bekham’s lives but this was really well done.

For films, we really enjoyed Wes Anderson’s The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. The cinematography, writing, costumes, sets, and actors are all wonderful. It’s on Netflix.

Flora and Son on Apple TV is a film about a mother and son in Ireland. It stars Eve Hewson as the mother and is really a lovely story.

Love at First Sight is a really really lovely rom com and both and Luke and I loved watching it. It’s the perfect pizza and a film Friday night, just in case you don’t have plans tonight. That’s available on Netflix.

Favorite Pom Pom Hats

My friends Sara and Ashley, owners of Easkey Right and also lovers of Scituate, asked me if I’d model their NEW hats for their website. I, of course, said yes! The shoot was so fun with Kjeld Mahoney and the weather was pretty warm despite being bundled up. Anyway, their new hats are my new favorite. There are two styles the 143 and the Nor’easter, both super cozy, warm and handmade in Maine.

Favorite Activity

For 10 days this month we hosted Émilie from Sucy-en-Brie in France. She was John’s correspondent in French class and her family hosted John last April. Hosting her was so lovely. We hosted Alric from Limoges, France last April and both these experiences were life changing for our family. We learned so much more about the French culture and about the American culture through their eyes and we’ve also made some wonderful friendships. We hope to host them both again and would love to visit them and their families in France.

The lady who starred in Flora and Son is also in Bad Sisters. It is a delightful series about five sisters in Ireland and four of them wish to see the fifth sister’s husband disappear. If you haven’t seen it yet,I highly recommend it.
