Friday Favorites (50)

Happy First Friday and Happy First Day of November! Can you believe I missed Friday Favorites for October? It was a very, very busy month and I have so much to share with you from favorite TV to excursions and family weekends and more!

Favorite Weekend

Well, it would have to be Family Weekend at RISD to visit John. We hadn’t seen him for a month and a half and it was just so wonderful to give him big hugs and see how he’s thriving in this amazing community of creators.

That’s a class project he’s holding above. For his spatial dynamics class he had to build a functioning chair out of cardboard boxes. We visited his studio with him and also got to see hands on demos and listen to to talks over the weekend.

RISD Craft was an amazing art fair that happened on Saturday morning. The street was blocked off and there were so many people there.

Restaurants We Loved In Providence

We got to eat lots of amazing food while were down there and I thought you might enjoy a list:

Cheese board at Sarto
  • Plant City – Vegan general store and restaurants. I loved the decor. Luke and I enjoyed the kale salad and buffalo cauliflower while John was in his studio class.
  • Sarto – amazing Italian Food
  • Palo – was really close to John’s school and had amazing tapas. We loved the tomato bread, the charcuterie board, and the Spanish omelette. Yum! Their Aperol Spritz was very good too.

We are so proud of John and it was wonderful to spend some time with him. Now we’re counting down until Thanksgiving 😉

Favorite Films & TV

Lately we’ve struck out with many films so I won’t recommend those, but here’s some we have enjoyed and you might too.

Films

Love the Coopers on Paramount + / Showtime – This is a quirky holiday film that came out 9 years ago but we didn’t know anything about it. We really enjoyed it. It was about families and traditions and so much more.

Unhinged on Netflix – Russell Crowe as you’ve never seen him before – definitely unhinged. I would NOT recommend this film if you don’t like suspense or don’t want to watch violence. It starts off with a road rage incident and then the woman is chased and terrorized by his character. It came out during the pandemic but it’s trending on Netflix now.

TV

Moonflower Murders on PBS – We enjoyed this very much! It’s the second season.

Hacks on Max – We started watching this series the other night. There is some crude humor but it’s a sitcom centering around an aging comedian in Las Vegas and her mentoring a writer.

Favorite New Product

The holiday collection. I shared more with you the other week, but here’s a glimpse if you missed it!

Kei Truck Holiday Card

I, of course, had to include Luke’s Kei Truck and we’re planning on decking his one out for the holidays. I’ll be launching some fun new products that would make wonderful gifts – hoping to launch them this coming week! So stay tuned – I just need to photograph everything.

Favorite Friendship

What an amazing program our town runs doing exchanges. We were honored to host an Irish student, Eoin, last week and Conor will be staying with his family in the spring.

The Irish kids experienced life on the South Shore and went on many excursions. The best part, though, I think are the friendships.

Favorite New Restaurant

Bar Taco just opened in Hingham and Luke and I enjoyed a “date lunch” up there. I absolutely love the interior:

We sat outside, though, and their patio is gorgeous. The food was just as sensational and so fresh!

Favorite Event

On the First Friday in October, I took part in the Scituate Harbor Art Walk and I did a little painting demo at Joye. It was such an honor to be in Nancy’s shop. She has been such a huge supporter of mine since the beginning and I’m so grateful for that!

It was truly a beautiful, warm night in the harbor and I enjoyed painting the below portrait of Scituate Lighthouse based on a photograph my parents took when they lived on the point. I’m trying to figure out what it should go on for the holidays. Let me know if you want to see this as prints or an ornament or something else.

Favorite Art Show

My friend Kjeld, owner of Afterglow Gallery, hosted a wonderful Kraken themed art show with my friend Elle of H Cole. The Kraken rum cocktails were yummy. I painted two pieces for the show – a mermaid and a kraken. Here’s a peek:

The mermaid sold the night of the show and the kraken is still available at Afterglow Gallery.
