Friday Favorites (7)
A blog series devoted to sharing my favorite things – TV, books, clothes, recipes and more.
You may remember that I started this series to feature a few of my favorite things from clothes, to paints, to food, and things to do with the kids. If you missed any you can see them here.
This post contains affiliate links, you can read my full disclosure policy here. If you purchase via a link I may receive a portion of the sale but it will not increase the price you pay. Thank you for supporting my blog in this way.
Well, we’re still At Home here in Scituate. The orders for staying home have been extended until May 18th but may be longer and our children will be finishing the school year at home. As you can imagine we’ve been enjoying lots of cozy times together as a family, reading lots of books, and watching LOTS of TV. Want to know what some of our favorites are?
Favorite Meals and Food
Luke has become really expert at bread baking. We’re really enjoying his sourdough bread, especially with cheese in it. You can see the recipe here.
At the beginning of the stay at home orders, I was making lavish meals that the kids would turn their noses up at. So now, I’m making their favorites. One night we’ll do breakfast for dinner, another night tacos or quesadillas, raviolis, jacket potatoes stuffed with Heinz baked beans and cheese with a salad on the side. Last night we made homemade pasta with Bolognese sauce. As a mom, there’s nothing worse than working really hard on a meal and kids not eating it. I’m picking my battles now and this seems to be working for us.
Favorite Clothes
Loungewear is what we’re rocking at home. I absolutely love these tops, they’re perfect for yoga but also great for every day where. They’re so soft! I got one in black and one in pink. I also broke down and ordered some sweatpants here and here, they’re the perfect length and ultra cozy. My very old sweats were wearing between the thighs which isn’t a very nice look (even if I’m just staying at home).
Our 14 year old, who usually likes very plain clothes, decided to branch out with these super cute and super soft tee shirts. They really express his artistic style. You can see more about him and his company here. The great thing is they’re on sale and also running a 50% off sale currently.
Favorite Books
I just finished reading Where the Crawdads Sing and couldn’t put it down! I think I read it in two days, which is very quick for me because I’m a super slow reader. I loved the story and the mystery and all the nature included in this book. Oh, and if you’d like to create the look of this faux malachite tray you can do so here.
I just started my friend Kristy’s brand new book – Feels Like Falling. It launched this week and is the perfect light read. You may remember Kristy’s Peachtree Bluff Series. I love hearing Kristy’s voice and I think you guys would like this video of her chatting about the book. It’s gonna be warm here on Sunday so I’m hoping to sit by the pool, which we’re opening then and finish this book with a cocktail.
I’m also reading Digging Deep and loving it! It’s part creative journal, part gardening book.
Favorite TV Shows
Well, like everyone we’ve watched the Tiger King. We actually binge watched it. I had no idea that people keeping big cats was a thing. Who knew?!?
Luke just got us a subscription to Brit Box and we’ve been rewatching Poirot which we all love!
Each week we also love watching Some Good News for some positive entertainment.
Oh, and to feel like we’re away we watched ALL of the Hawaii Hunters.
Favorite Face Masks and Sanitizers
My friend Ji’s company – Take Care Space and Take Care Market have started selling hand sanitizers made with alcohol and lovely essential oils. They smell amazing!
We ordered Conor a face mask. These limited addition masks are made by Adrianna Gluck. As soon as it arrived Conor wanted to wear it.
So turns out Conor is now a Take Care Space model as his image is up on the site.
Favorite Things to Paint
Conor and I painted a lot of watercolor hearts which we included in Art Kits for Scituate Education Foundation. They can also be seen in our online shop.
I’ve also started painting more landscapes inspired by a tutorial my friend Lucy shared at Craftberry Bush. This was my attempt:
For some reason, each day I’m drawn to painting the sea – waves, the surf crashing, and little parts of our little town.
I’m not a professional artist but was thinking about maybe sharing a post of watercolor supplies – paper, brushes and paints that I like. Would that be of interest to anyone? I’m also thinking of maybe selling original small watercolor paintings and listing them in my shop. Let me know if that’s something that would interest you guys, too. As of right now, I paint them and put them in the drawer next to my desk 😉
Well, I think that’s it for this Friday, what are you guys loving lately?
Love your new moody sunset harbor-scapes! You should add these new original art pieces to your online store (though I have the feeling these already found a home in your house)☀️
Hi Ann, I’m really overwhelmed by the response to my paintings in the comments here and also on Instagram. I had no idea people would want to buy them. Wow! I’m figuring out a way of listing originals in my online shop. So stay tuned! Thank you for giving me the courage and the encouragement. xx
Your watercolor landscapes/seascapes are very nice. And I am impressed that you’re opening the pool this weekend up there in Massachusetts. Love Poirot too, really almost all British tv!
Have a great weekend,
Pat
Hi Pat, we might actually open the pool today. Brilliant sunshine and supposed to be warm. Of course, no one will be able to swim for a few weeks as the pool warms up and the balance of chemicals is correct. I probably won’t jump in until July as I need to be HOT to swim. Ha! Ha! Thank you for your kind words about the seascapes. Painting is relaxing me right now so it was nice to realize that people like the paintings. Isn’t Poirot wonderful? We love a little murder mystery after dinner each night 😉
I like your suggestions Danielle. I need loungewear too! How do you find the old navy sizes run?
Hi Elaine. I think they run true to size. I usually wear a 4 or 6 pant and I ordered the small sweats and small tops. The tops are a little more loose fitting. I love that the sweatpants are the right length. I’m only 5’1″ and usually EVERYTHING is too long for me. These are cuffed at the ankle. Hope you enjoy if you order them. Super cozy and comfy.
Danielle I would love to know what supplies you are using for your watercolors, and I think you should definitely sell them. I’m eagerly awaiting the chance to read “feels like falling” as she is one of my favorite authors.
Hi Lisa, I’ll definitely write a post about watercolor supplies. It can be overwhelming when you first start because there are so many brands of paper and watercolor paints and brushes. I’ll share my favorites and what works for me. I’m overwhelmed with the kind comments of everyone for my watercolor seascapes. So kind. I’m working out a way of selling originals. Thank you for the encouragement. You will LOVE Feels Like Falling – I’m eager to finish it this weekend by the pool with a cocktail in hand. The sun is shining today and it feels so good!
Your watercolor seascapes are lovely!
Thank you so much for your kind words about my watercolor seascapes xx
Yay! Thank you so, so much for reading Feels LIke Falling and for sharing it with your readers. You are awesome!! xoxo Kristy
I’m loving it, Kristy! Congratulations on writing another amazing book! I think your fans are going to love it. Perfect beach read! Just what we all need right now. x
Absolutely! Beautiful!
Thank you, Rory! xx
Danielle, I’ve just begun my watercolor journey. Never painted in any medium in my whole life, but always felt a calling to watercolor. Last year at this time I decided it was time. Loving it! This post has inspired me to try my hand at seascapes. Thank you! I quickly developed my own list of favorite supplies and always enjoy seeing what other watercolorists use.
