Getting the Spanish Villa Style
While we were in Catalonia in July we stayed in the most beautiful Spanish villa. I’m still day dreaming about getting the Spanish Villa Style.
This beautiful home had high arched ceilings, terracotta floors, beautiful painted ceilings, lovely French style doors onto long terraces, airy white curtains, crushed velvet sofas, and was styled to perfection.
What is Spanish Villa Style? I’m talking about woven baskets, dried florals, lovely textures and nature all around.
Do you guys love this style? If so, read on about easy ways to achieve the look in your own home.
More About the Villa We Stayed In
We rented a villa that slept up to 28 people in Borils. The villa is Can Tallada and truly had it all – a pool with a covered area and bathroom, an annex with a separate kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms and a three floor historic villa with large reception rooms, enormous kitchen, and most of the bedrooms were all en-suite. I loved the decor of the villa so much!
Bordils is located in Catalonia and was approximately at 20 minute drive to the Medieval city of Girona.
The villa had a wonderful earthy style that put us all at ease.
Let’s head inside and take a closer look at easy ways to achieve this very romantic and rustic style.
Easy Ways to Achieve the Spanish Villa Look
Let’s start in the Annex that had the sweetest little kitchen. This part of the villa had three bedrooms, a bathroom, a sitting area, a balcony and this fun little kitchen.
Pops of Blue
What strikes me the most about this space is the happy use of cobalt blues from cabinets, to playful square tiles to the SMEG fridge.

Gorgeous Spanish Tiled Floors & Beautiful Wood Furniture
Each space had different tiled floors whether they be terracotta tile or something more graphic (as pictured above). The tiled floors kept the villa cool in the hot summer sun but these tiles added so much visual interest.
The detailed wood furniture and carved doors warmed up the space. It’s easy to add these elements into your own home. You can affordably shop vintage and antiques at estate sales or yard sales and many big box stores are carrying similar tiles. You can even get a floor cloth that could achieve the same look, like the one in our front hall.

Pretty Outdoor Bathrooms with a View
The focal point here is obviously the view, but I love the rattan blind, the ornate mirror, the Moroccan sconces, the natural stone all paired with a marble counter and bowl sink. The mix of old and new is striking!

Rustic Kitchen
I wish there was some way to have this kitchen in our home. It was so BIG but warm and inviting at the same time. The ceilings were so high which made it comfortable even on an 100 degree day. I love the hood and square tiles.
The long table created perfect seating and prep area and the woven pendants (I think they were actually baskets) and so much warmth and texture. Dried branches and other florals were spread across the kitchen.
I also adore the terracotta tiles done in a herringbone pattern, the carved door, and ornate mirror above the sink.

Cozy Living Room Filled with Antiques
Can you picture this room in winter with a crackling fireplace? It’s soft and muted and the crushed velvet couches in mustard act as a neutral. The vintage trumpets and bugles would be quite easy to find at a flea market and the linen pillows are from Ikea. I find this whole space warm and inviting!

A Dreamy Bedroom
This was our bedroom and it was such a relaxing space. I loved the floor to ceiling doors that opened out onto the balcony. It was so romantic to watch the white linen curtains blow in the breeze. Soft grays, whites and neutral colors were used in this restful space.

Shady Covered Patios
This villa had many covered patios – with beautiful archways. Breezy linen curtains, wood furniture, distressed wood beams, and Moroccan pendants made these spaces feel so relaxing and romantic.
Similar lighting was used in the three story staiwell.
Isn’t’ the ornate railings and ceiling exquisite?

Spacious Transition Spaces
The villa had many spaces like this with bedrooms off of these areas. Look at the hand painted ceilings! I love the simplicity of the design. Many rooms had linen curtains and sea grass rugs. I love the mix of the natural with the ornate (gilded mirror and the glass chandelier).
