Jump to RecipeHere’s the thing. I LOVE summer and I always feel like September is still summer so it’s very hard for me to come up with truly fall recipes at this time. Luke and I were shopping at Trader Joe’s over the weekend and I came across a carton of fresh figs from California.
My hubby LOVES figs.
Look how beautiful they are!!!
We actually had a fig tree in our last house but it wasn’t planted outside so got very confused. I’m thinking we might need to add one to our yard at this house. Do you guys have any experience with figs? Will they winter okay if planted in the ground in New England?

I’ve been reading a few of Susan Branch’s books and she mentions these stuffed figs in her Autumn book. This book is a really great inspiration for the arrival of fall.
Saturday was a wet and dreary day. It rained ALL DAY. Luke was baking his famous sourdough bread. I thought it would be fun to try out these stuffed figs with some wine.

What a wonderful treat these figs are!
Broiling the figs brought out the sweetness, which works with the tangy goat cheese and the salty bacon.
As they say in England, “These are more-ish.” I promise you can’t stop at one.
This dish pairs fantastically with warm, crusty sourdough bread. We also sipped Oso Pardo, wine which is available through Scout & Cellar. One of our favorite ones.
These glasses were a birthday gift for Luke. Wine just tastes better in crystal, don’t you think?
The candle is by Park Hill Candles – I love the woven willow basket and the candles have such a beautiful fragrance.
I hope you’ll give these stuffed figs a try! Please let me know if you do.
