Gone Fishing
Sometimes in life you need to put the most important things first…
That is exactly what we did on Father’s Day. After a lovely breakfast in Scituate Harbor. We took our boys fishing for the first time!
As a little reward for such hard work at school we bought them some bright green fishing rods from Target that came with all the gear.
We decided that this little area on the reservoir in Scituate was the perfect spot. It was so peaceful on the water.
It was so calm. We loved watching the dragon flies.
We used corn as bait. My hubby didn’t think it would work… But fish love corn. We waited patiently…
I was watching my little guys and loving it. I started thinking, “Oh, wow! What a fun past time and we could do this over summer break.” They were loving it so much!
Look at the sheer pleasure on their faces!
Then this…
John caught one with the corn! Oh, gosh!
I started yelling for Luke to help. This fish was NOT a cute sunfish. This fish had sharp teeth, looked almost eel-like and was really thrashing.
He caught a chain pickerel. Not a pretty fish, but he was over the moon! I definitely think this is one of those activities we do with Daddy.
Any local friends have places they like to fish? I think we’ll be fishing a lot more.
Conor’s hoping to catch one next time!

Two cuties having fun with Daddy fishing. Perfect. Great catch!
Kimberly, they had soooo much fun! It was so exciting.
Ry’s first big catch was a pickerel! So fun, right? Beautiful pictures!!!
Those shoes are adorable!!!! Great pictures.
We are not fishermen here…but we do drop crab pots in now and again! LOVE those shoes!
Too cute, but I think I’d prefer someone else to unhook a fish too – definitely a Dad’s job !
You sure have your priorities right and that was a perfect day for two little guys!
When my dad fished with corn he called it “chum”. There are fancier chums but in a pinch it worked for him. I grew up in Monument Beach (village in Bourne). We fished off the dock at the “Big” Beach 🙂
Patti-Ann, that sounds so wonderful. I bet you have lots of great memories of fishing with your dad now. We’ll call it “chum” from now on 🙂
Yes I do. Happy chumming!
Let summer begin! If two boys on a dock, fishing doesn’t scream summer vacation, I don’t know what does! Love it! 🙂
Oh, Kim, they loved it so much! John has a few more days left due to all our snow days here, but his heart is already celebrating summer!
