Growing Like Weeds
The kids, the garden and the weeds – have all been growing (for lack of a better way of putting it) like weeds!
John weeding! |
I guess I didn’t realize how bad the weed situation was as I’ve been consumed with playing with the kids, making pillows and painting. But it was an issue that had to be addressed. Look how big that weed was – it was right in with the over-grown roses. This weekend was perfect gardening weather!
You may remember that I shared the raised beds we built in the spring here. They’ve worked out fantastically this year.
We have humungous rutabaga growing. Very excited for Luke to make his Cornish pasties and do roasted veggies with them:

The boys were excited about our first raspberries.
Raspberries |
They love eating them off the plant, but I’m thinking a raspberry sauce over ice cream sounds like heaven.
There has been some unexpected happiness with the garden. We planted everything in rows – carrots, parsnips, rutabaga, radishes, spinach etc. There were no tomatoes planted in the raised beds, but there must have been seeds in our compost because we have a tomato jungle out there. This photo was taken in June (so imagine how many more tomato plants there are now):

I picked these lovely cherry, mini heirloom tomatoes and fun tomatillos on Saturday. Conor loves tomatoes and eats them like they are candy. Whatever is left, I’ll put in salads, roasted veggies, spag bol and I am so excited to try out salsa verde this week.
Tomatoes and tomatillos fresh from the garden! |
Such a wonderful bonus and suprise to have so many tasty tomatoes. Hope you’re all having a lovely last bit of summer and enjoying summer’s bounty with fresh fruits and veggies!

Our garden is outta control! We have a tomato jungle too 🙂
I’m always so impressed when people grow their own fruits and veg – I bet they taste better than shop bought ones.
I can’t work out how you have the time Danielle !
that’s it, you’ve inspired me to start my own garden next year; I always put it off but these pictures have me SALIVATING!!!
your garden looks fantastic! it must be great to have home grown veggies.

I’m terribly jealous that you have raspberries in your garden. What a true treat that is. It all looks so good. I bet your kids have a lot of fun with it too!
