Guest Room Inspiration
We’ve started working on the guest room (insert sounds of great cheers and applause).
This is how our guest room currently looks:
The walls appear periwinkle in these photos but they are actually a vibrant, almost electric blue. This makes sense as it used to be a little boy’s bedroom and he LOVED super heroes; all the masks and costumes looked great against this background. BUT I want something a little more shabby chic for our guests.
That lovely bookcase that also hides the radiator is going to get thoroughly styled (and will still also have books).
Enough of the horrible befores! I have so much I’m dreaming of for this room. I want our guest to feel welcome. I think bedrooms should be an oasis of calm.
Here’s some images that inspire me.
This one is from Anthropologie and I love the soft ruffles and the patterned wall AND the chandelier, but this room isn’t going to have a chandelier. I think Luke would kill me! Ha! Ha!
I love this white bed:
I like the mix of dark beams and light walls and bedding with painted furniture:
Oh and one more from Rachel Ashwell for good measure. You know I love Shabby Chic in this house:
So I’m going to fill this room up with muted, sea glass colors, white cotton, maybe some ruffles (but not too many), a gorgeous stencil wall and I’m also hoping to make the trim darker with General Finishes Gel Stain (so it is more consistent with the rest of the house).
Here is what I’m thinking for the room:
I’m thinking of some soft floaty bedding like that from Target’s Simply Shabby Chic line (image 1). The walls will be painted in the soft shade of Glass Slipper by Benjamin Moore (number 3). This color is just gorgeous. In some lights Glass Slipper looks pale blue and others a restful gray. We will create a statement wall behind the bed with this gorgeous lace stencil by Royal Design Studio (number 5) and Simply White Benjamin Moore paint (number 2). Antique furniture will get shined up like new. I love the shape of this one by Ballard Design (number 4). Completing the bed will be a cotton or ruffled bedskirt similar to the one from Target’s Shabby Chic line (image 6). I also plan on doing something floaty and soft in the windows, maybe dotted swiss.
SO, that is what I’m thinking. We have a lot to do, BUT I’m so excited! What do you think?!? I hope to share some progress next week!!! Fingers crossed!
Love the ideas! New to painting furniture. We are moving to a newly built home in a seaside community next week. Will be doing a guest room too. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Danielle, look forward to seeing your progress.
Can’t wait to see it! It will be beautiful 🙂
Love your inspiration photos. It’s going to look great!!
