Halloween Home Tour (2018)
Fun, family friendly ways to bring Halloween into your home this season. My Halloween Home Tour has easy DIY projects and free printables to create a spooky NOT scary home tour.
I am sooooooo excited about writing this post. Halloween is my favorite. It was always a big deal when I was growing up because my mom would make me the most elaborate costumes. One year, I had very heavy eye make up and was a fairy princess with wings another year I was Michael Jackson (I idolized him). The only thing was I told my friends that I was gonna have the “Beat It” Jacket. Do you remember the red one with all the zippers? Well, my mom actually used an old blue blazer and hand sewed sequins to it. Hmmm, not exactly what I was picturing, but I’m sure that jacket took my mom forever to sew.
To this day I still LOVE Halloween and so do our kids. They love helping me decorate and they love figuring out what they’re gonna be. It’s a really big deal in our town; the main road is shut to traffic and filled with hundreds of trick or treaters who all go door to door from shop to shop and restaurant to restaurant. EVERYONE dresses up – dogs, kids, grown ups. It’s the best.
Since, it’s now October I thought it would be fun to share our Halloween Home Tour. My friend Kristen over at Ella Claire is hosting this hop. I can’t wait to see all the ideas at the bottom of this post.
I know not everyone LOVES Halloween like us, but if you do, you don’t want to miss this post.

Halloween Front Porch
I like to keep home decor, even for Halloween, quite simple. The other day I shared our muted fall entry. I added a few polka dot pumpkins out here. I shared the full tutorial yesterday. Our youngest helped with these sweet little lanterns. All you do is clean out the pumpkins and drill the holes using various drill bits.
I knew I wanted our witch to be the focal point this year.
We created her using one of John’s drawings. She’s made out of wood which we sprayed black.
You can see how we made her and a few other projects we did in the Home Depot Halloween Style Challenge here and here.
She’s still a favorite and so meaningful that John created her.
The crow door mat is from World Market and the straw wreath is from HomeGoods, got them both a few years ago now.
To add even more spookiness, I took out our fog machine 😉 Our kids love it!
Creepy but in a good way, right?
“Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and caldron bubble.”
Halloween Printables with Faux Rust
Let’s step inside so I can share some fun labels I created for Halloween. I shared these labels last week, click here, along with how to get a faux rust look.
I had some fun taking photos of the labels after affixing them to jars.
Luke’s office is the perfect spot to take some dramatic photos with his new dark walls.
I decided to use some of these printables for our Halloween mantel this year.
Halloween Mantel
The mantel is decorated very simply. As you’ll see, there’s minimal color. It’s black and white with a few wine colored branches.
I spray painted some old books black and used that to ground the mantel and add layers. I interspersed the free printables along with white baby boo pumpkins, candles and black crows.
The owl is another one of John’s drawings that I had framed. It usually hangs on the wall in here but I thought it looks great leaning against the wall here for Halloween.
Candles add instant ambience and a little spookiness.
Just be careful if you have any branches near pillars. They may catch on fire. As that’s what happened while I was taking these photos…If you look closely you can see this leaf catching fire.
As you can imagine, this brought the Halloween mantel shoot to an abrupt end. Ha! ha!
Halloween in the Kitchen
I kept things simple in here. A small vignette that celebrates the season.
Our little Ikea island is the perfect spot for some Halloween snacks and coffee.
How pretty are these pretty pumpkin tree branches and some eucalyptus?
They add just the right amount of orange and Halloween to our kitchen. The apple cider donuts are from Trader Joe’s and are delicious.
We made the roasted pumpkin seeds and I’ll be sharing the recipe on the blog next week. The sweet little bottles are from World Market and my friend Destiny has a great free printable if you want to put labels on them.
If you guys find sugar free pumpkin syrup let me know. I’m trying to be good on Keto but it’s hard when there’s apple cider donuts laying around 😉
Halloween in the Dining Room
Now onto the dining room. Again, things are pretty simple in here, too. You guys all know I like to change up the decor on this little blue cabinet for the season.
I borrowed my kids skeleton, he lives in their playroom year ’round. Yup. It’s a mess in there, but they play in there non-stop. Soooo, I borrowed their skeleton.
Added some baby boos and some dried hydrangeas.
And it looks like our skeleton is ready to tango!
I like to use humor in my home decor.
On the table I’ve used some heirloom pumpkins, a neutral woven runner and added a pretty and festive cake. If I was an amazing baker I would have baked a cake, but I’m not. I can do cookies and brownies and have dabbled in cakes but it stresses me out. This is actually an ice cream cake from Nona’s Homemade in Scituate. It’s our favorite ice cream shop and I bought the cake to celebrate our dog’s 8th birthday. Can you believe Poppy is 8?!?
These bats are a free printable my friend Kristen offered on her blog. She also shared the most unbelievable black and orange cake. You guys have to check it out.
Well, that’s our simple and easy Halloween home tour. I love taking homemade items and art and turning it into something special for our family.

Your son is so talented. His owl drawing is still one of my favorites! Love the witch silhouette with the fog machine too!
I love your sense of whimsy—-and self-control. A few bits go a long way—when there is understated humor involved. LOVE the owl print—and all the little touches.
Wow, how talented is your son, amazing. Love your Halloween. The Skelton with the hydrangea pieces in his mouth had me giggling outloud. Super fun idea.
Everything looks great. Going to go check out the others. Enjoy your day
Cindy

Wow Danielle your porch and fog machine had me in love and then you shared inside and I was also in love. You did such a good job with keeping Halloween decor simple and classy! Just beautiful!
You can’t “beat it”!! Love your porch and that amazing silhouette!
Your Halloween porch is nothing short of amazing! And what an incredible tip to rust up those labels. Going to give it a try!
I adore your Halloween post. I want to try the label idea ….I need to start collecting jars like you have. I also love how you did the skeleton so it is not so spooky too.
GREAT Hallowe’en decor inside and outside! Provides wonderful inspiration. Thank you.
I’m so glad you like the Halloween ideas, Carolyne. xx
