Halloween Home Tour (2020)
Halloween Home Tour – Halloween is our favorite holiday and I’m excited to share easy ideas to decorate your home for this spooky holiday.
Ever since I was a little girl Halloween has been my favorite holiday. My mom would always make me the BEST costumes – one year I was Michael Jackson (I wanted to marry him when I was little), another I was a mermaid, then I was a fairy princess with very heavy eye make up. A wicked witch with a green face mask that hardened as I trick or treated. The love for this holiday has rubbed off on our two sons. They love decorating and coming up with fun costumes. You can see our Halloween Home Tour from 2018 here.
This year I know Halloween just won’t be the same. Usually the harbor closes to traffic and the merchants fling open their doors to welcome a thousand trick or treaters. I’ve shared more about this on the blog here and here. I’ve also shared some of the boys Halloween costumes – the joker, a giant crow, Maverick and an Army Soldier. This year they’ve decided not to dress up. Instead of Trick or Treating, we’re going to make a spooky home cooked dinner and watch The Witches. I’ll leave a bowl of candy out for Trick or Treaters.
Since they’re not trick or treating we decided to decorate our home and celebrate our favorite holiday. We baked a batch of Reese’s Pieces Cookies and decorated to our hearts’ content.

Wicked Witch Silhouette
We made our wicked witch a few years back from one of John’s drawings. It was pretty easy to do. We used plywood and spray paint. You can make anything for your front yard this way. You can see more about that here.
This year we decided to put her in front of the pool gate with an assortment of pumpkins. I dreamt of piling the pumpkins really high but it just wasn’t in the budget this year.
I was going to pull the smoke machine out, BUT the morning light was so pretty around 7am I just decided to take the photos 🙂
Simple Halloween Front Porch
Our cornstalks have turned the prettiest shade of gold, you might remember they were green the other week.
We kept it pretty simple. A few pumpkins and a feather wreath which was from Target a few years ago.
The pre-lit jack-o-lantern was from the Home Depot a few years ago. I love these vintage lights I found at a consignment store a few years back. The silhouette is perfect for Halloween and I’ve used them inside and out.
The boys had fun sticking spiders across our door which is painted in Benjamin Moore’s Buxton Blue.
I’m so excited for you to see the rest of the tour inside. Come on in!
Halloween Front Hall
Gosh, we seem to have a spider problem…. Ha! Ha!
The lit pumpkin is from Balsam Hill, the crows were from the Dollar Store, and the books from John’s bookshelf.
I love using black and white for Halloween!
Let’s move into the living room. We’ve decorated the desk and mantel in here.
Halloween Mantel
All the elements in the living room are ones we had. I like to store everything in big bins in the basement.
The bottles are done with DIY labels you can get the tutorial here. I stuffed grass fronds from our garden into the bottles and it’s given such a lovely and soft affect.
The books I spray painted with matte spray paint.
Opposite the mantel are our white slipcovered chairs with a black painted vintage desk.
I placed a resin skull on it with more of the grasses.
It’s so realistic. I will warn you the resin was very smelly so had to let it air out.
Creepy in a good kind of way!
Skeletons in the Playroom
I can’t really show you the whole playroom because, once again, it’s a mess. John and Conor love skeletons and both are hiding their skeletons each night for us to find in the morning (kind of like elf on the shelf!).
Care for a tune?!?
John actually had the piano playing music by itself.
On to the dining room for more skeletons and crows.
Halloween in the Dining Room
Every season I love decorating this blue chippy cabinet for different holidays. Halloween is no exception.
We couldn’t resist the dog skeleton. Doesn’t it look like Max???
If you look closely you’ll see one the boys’ skeletons hiding.
The dining table is decorated simply with an assortment of faux pillar candles, real tapers, black gauze from the Dollar Tree, and crows.
The broom is actually handmade and my parents had it when I was growing up but we think it looks like a witches broom.
The ammonium hydroxide bottle was a Brimfield find.

I hope you enjoyed our Halloween Home Tour as much as we did creating it. Thanks for joining us. You might like these Halloween Watercolor Free printables I created. They’re quite popular! As is my Fall Favorites! How are you all celebrating Halloween this year? Oh, and do you have any favorite Halloween movies?
Love the spooky touches!! Where did you get the pumpkins on the mantle? They are adorable!!
We typically don’t go out for Halloween. When my girls were little, it seemed like Halloween was always cold and rainy and they would end up sick the next morning from being out the night before. My toddler son has special needs and gets scared easily so our tradition is to stay in and make a big pot of chili and a special Halloween dessert and watch fun Halloween movies all night.
Hi Samantha, the pumpkins on the mantel were from Target maybe 4 or 5 years ago. I love your tradition of cozy homemade chili, a special dessert, and Halloween movies. So fun!
I thoroughly enjoyed this tour, Danielle! While it’s sad that your boys are now at the age where trick or treating is being put to bed, it’s great that they enjoy the fun in decorating too. The skeleton hiding alongside the chest of drawers made me laugh out loud. I love the witchy cutout outside too. The grass fronds, the spiders….all the details make it a fun tour. Enjoy the season!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the tour, Rita. We really do love Halloween over here. It certainly is bittersweet that they’re getting older, but they love decorating and are having so much fun with their skeletons 😉
Danielle, your home looks just wonderful as it always does. What a fun Look you’ve created. ❤️❤️
Thank you, Judy, it really was fun to decorate it with John & Conor. Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for stopping by xx
Great! I especially love the skeleton behind the piano!
My husband actually drove home with that strapped into the front passenger seat. Thankfully he wasn’t pulled over. Ha! ha!
