Home for the Holidays: Kids & Christmas

John, Santa and Conor (2012)

One of my favorite parts of Christmas is the magic it brings.  It brings magic to the young, but also us older “big kids”.  I love seeing this holiday through my children’s eyes.  My eyes filled up with tears as I saw them sitting on Santa’s lap.  Conor had the biggest smile on his face this year as Santa talked to him. I love bundling up and looking at the fairy lights around our neighborhood.  I love baking with them and helping them make little crafts to celebrate the season.  Today I’ll be sharing How to Make Model Magic Snowmen.  I will be sharing this over at This, That and Life at our last Home for the Holidays link party.

How To Make Snowless Snowmen
Model Magic Snowmen

Materials
– Model Magic (available on Amazon, at Michaels or other craft stores)
– Pins
– Twigs
– Orange Toothpicks
– Felt (optional)

My kids love Model Magic, and unlike Playdough  it doesn’t leave a residue.  To make a snowman you need to mold a ball of Model Magic.  Push it and pull it and working it all out:

Instead of making three separate balls as you would with Playdoh you need to kind of make a long tube and then shape the three sections.

Your snowman will then look like this:
Then add pins in whatever color you’d like for eyes:
Pins for eyes
A half of a toothpick for the nose and twigs for arms:
On this one I used rosemary branches from our deck, but larger twigs are also cute:

You can also add some felt to look like a scarf or buttons (pins) down the center section.  The best part about this type of snowman is it doesn’t melt like Frosty.

While we’re on the topic of Kids and Christmas I thought I’d share a few photos of an incredible place we took our boys to.  One Sunday a few weeks back we took them to the Heritage Gardens in Sandwich, MA and had the most lovely evening.  They got to chat with Santa in an old Model T (photo above).  The boys loved all the lights.

The beautiful gingerbread houses:

Check this one out:

They came out much better than the one we did from a kit!  Our’s is looking even worse because little Conor thought it was to eat so candy is missing from the front.
They also loved the indoor carousel:
Heritage Gardens is truly a magical place.  If you’re local, and interested in going, “Gardens Aglow” will be going on through December 23rd.  We loved it there.

Can’t wait to see what you all have been up to you with your kids this time of year!

Heritage Gardens looks like a great place to visit. It is so nice to celebrate family traditions at the Holidays while creating a few new ones along the way. So very sweet.

Cute snowmen and the boys look like they’re thrilled to be visiting with Santa! I love doing things the Christmas with my grandhildren! We’llbe baking some cookies this weekend. They’re 5 and 2 so my kitchen may never be the same, but we’ll have fun! Merry Christmas! Hugs, Leena
