If You Could Reach The Stars…
While driving to school the other morning, I had a million things on my mind – errands, laundry, blog, were we running late? John, my 7 year old, called out:
“Mom?”
“Yes, John.”
He cleared his throat, “Mom, what if you could reach all the stars in the sky?”
I had this beautiful mental image in my mind when he went on to ask,
“Who would you give them to?”
He asked who would I give them to not wouldn’t it be cool to keep them all for yourself. John has such a warm and gentle soul. He’s always thinking of others and how he can be helpful. On that drizzly morning it took my little guy asking me such a profound question to get me to not worry about all the little things.
If I could reach all the stars in the sky. I would give them to my little boys, John and Conor. In a way I gave John a bit of the stars this week. For many, many months all I’ve heard is that he wants to ride horses. It is his dream.
I’m not sure where this dream came from, but he has always loved the ponies at the Cohasset Farmer’s Market:
Belmont was always his favorite. He’d wait patiently until it was his turn.
At Christmas he told me how, “It would be a dream come true to ride a horse.” Well, this week John got to see what it was like up there.
Can you see him beaming?!?
He loved it.
April, this lovely 6 year old horse, carried him carefully, as he held tight to the reins, her mane flowing down her strong back.
It was so magical in that barn at Country Road Stables. The soft dirt under foot, the pitter patter of rain outside, the miniature horse, who we fell in love with, and all that helped my little guy’s dream come true.
He’s going back for camp there this summer, but he wanted to know if he could go riding again.
“Can I today, Mom?”
How can I resist this joyful sound of him while riding? I haven’t heard him this happy in some time.
If you could reach the stars who would you give them to?
So sweet 🙂
Awhhhh xo Kristin
That made me tear up! How sweet!
Ditto, so adorable xx
what a beautiful story
Thank you, Lauren! It is straight from my heart. x
This is such a beautiful and touching story. I have to admit that handsome little man sure did look happy!!
How wonderful! You can hear him happily giggling as the horse picks up speed! I love riding and haven’t done so in years. That’s one of the things I’d like to do too! How neat that he can attend a camp there! He’ll love it! If I gathered up all the stars, I give one to everybody! Ever person deserves a star, right? I’d give the biggest, brightest one to my husband, Jim. 🙂 Hugs, Leena
Beautiful!
What a wonderful, wonderful post! Thank you so much for the reminder to dream!
Happy day!
