In the Pumpkin Patch

“Pumpkin Patch, Pumpkin Patch
I’m looking for a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch.
There was one round and fat,
I carved it into a jac-o-latern, just like that.
Boo!”
Every year we go to the ASP (Apalachian Service Project) Pumpkin Patch in Cohasset’s Wheelwright Park.  On Sunday we saw the fun ASP signs posted around town so made plans to go yesterday morning.  The patch just opened on Saturday and it is spectacular.  John and Conor had so much fun playing in the sea of orange pumpkins!
Over 3500 pumpkins were delivered by an 18 wheeler and took 40 volunteers 3 hours to assemble the pumpkins in a design (each year is something different).  Part of the excitement is finding out what the shape is.  Tiny, small, medium, large, bumpy, lumpy, white, gray – pumpkins of all sorts were involved in this year’s creation.

The pumpkin patch is the ASP’s biggest fundraiser which helps fund their trip in the Summer to make conditions better for those living in Appalachia.  Our boys and our puppy had so much fun picking out pumpkins.  We got some gords, a big fat orange one, a cool white and orange striped pumpkin and a small bee pumpkin (couldn’t resist it).  If you are interested in heading over, the patch is open from 10am-7pm everyday until Halloween.  They are also accepting credit cards this year.  That perfect pumpkin awaits!

What a great thing! I’ve passed the signs for this for two years, but never stopped! I think this will definitely go on our to-do for next year!
