On the Devil’s Chair |
I always forget how much I love to walk in the woods with my family until we haven’t been in a while. The other day we went for a walk in Wheelwright Park in Cohasset. It was nice to go back to nature and to hear the sounds of the woods. Conor was especially excited because this was the first time he actually walked in the woods (on previous trips he was in the back carrier). He really enjoyed his new found freedom on this trip!
Conor kept noticing fallen trees and would say, “Uh, Oh!” So funny that there were so many trees down. Did anyone hear them fall? The woods was particularly beautiful that day with the needles strewn like feathers on the floor and the towering pines above us.
The sounds and sights made us all think of
The Gruffalo – one of our favorite books. On our walk we kept reciting the book but inserting the boys for the mouse, “[John and Conor] took a stroll in the deep dark woods…” We kept looking for the Gruffalo. “He has terrible tusks and terrible claws and terrible teeth in his terrible jaws. He has knobbly knees and turned-out toes, and a poisonous wart at the end of his nose. His eyes are orange, his tongue is black, he has purple prickles all over his back.”
John thinks he’s found the Gruffalo’s house down a long and winding path, but we didn’t explore it. No sight of a mouse, a fox, a snake or an owl either. But we know they are all there!
