It’s the little things in life that make me so happy. Our bathroom, for example, is not very big. I guess in this McMansion era of housing it would be considered tiny. But it does have very high ceilings so with our makeover I tried to maximize the verticle space.
I first must say that the lighting was very bad yesterday when I took the photos (in some photos the lights are on and in others the sun broke through the clouds enough), but I couldn’t wait a moment longer to share our new and improved bathroom with you:
Bathroom (After)
Just to remind you, here’s the before:
Bathroom (Before)
I’m not really sure why it has taken us 5 1/2 years to “do” the bathroom, but it has. For years I’ve wanted a rain shower head and I must tell you I really enjoyed my first shower! Yes, it is the little things that make me happy!

So this was really a team effort! Conor, our three year old, painted:

As did I:
Painting the trim in Benjamin Moore Super White
Luke did all the hard work. The ceiling, the high bits and hanging everything up!

Here’s how it looked:

And here’s how it looks now:

I love the serene blue ceiling and the light beige walls which reminds me of the sand at the beach. The walls now pick up hues from the floor tiles perfectly. Even though the house is filled with boys I love ruffles:

Ikea clear glass shelves allow for plenty of chic storage but without the bulk and weight. We have no closet in the bathroom and no room for stand alone storage. This was the perfect solution!
Plenty of room for my Jo Malone perfume, q-tips, shaving stuff and make up.
I also got these cool blue bottles from Ikea for decoration and to keep our Listerine bottle off the pedestal sink. Doesn’t that plant look real? Thanks, Ikea!
Towel racks were also an issue. We only had two hooks for four of us in the bathroom behind the door. Now we have two hooks:
and a space saving towel rack
and bath toys!
woven baskets corral bath toys
Oh, and now I will not have to worry about toilet paper (loo roll as they say in England) mid-stream as I’ve filled a clamming basket up with plenty:
toilet paper, anyone?
I just hope Conor doesn’t decide to dunk them all in the toilet.
Finally, I’ve included some local artisans into our bathroom. A local sculptor made the soap dish. I love the colors and picked it up at Expressions in Scituate Harbor. I also got the lavender soap there.
The image of Scituate Light was done by Joe Parksey – Pixel paintings.

That looks great! The beige color is nice and warm. Small bathrooms are so hard to figure out, but when you get it right, it’s so nice. 🙂
Thanks, Brenda. Yes little spaces can be hard and it took a while to figure out what we should do, but it is perfect now! x
