Living Room Progress

Well, they say Rome wasn’t built in a day…

I guess the same can be said for our living room.

We have made some progress since I shared our inspiration and plan in January.  Here was the plan:

We’ve been busy…We painted the walls in Mascarpone White by Benjamin Moore and removed the mirror (which was so scary to me).  I thought for sure we were going to have 7 years of bad luck each!  Ha! Ha!

We hung gorgeous linen curtains and my favorite Beckons of Cowes images:

We moved the TV to the corner near the fireplace, we got these fabulous lights from Target (LOVE them so much)!

BUT there is still so much I envision.  The coffee table will be stained dark on top and get a restoration hardware finish on the rest.  The white chair and couch will be replaced with leather and I’m hoping for this one from Distinctive Chesterfield.

Here’s how things are looking on the other side of the room:

Mmmm, lots of brown wood (everywhere!).  The Governor Winthrop desk will get painted.  Do you guys have any color ideas for me?!?  Still not sure.  You may remember that I did Jocasta in black so would rather do something different.  You may have noticed the very larger serpentine dresser.

That isn’t staying here, but I will have to paint it here it is too large to go in and out of the bulk head into the basement.  I guess that is the problem when you’re a “furniture magpie” like me.  That is what our friend Gav said I was and it is so true.

I’m really thinking we need to do something with the brick.  Grey,whitewash, something.  Eventually we’ll have a lovely gas fire here but that is down the road (a long way down the road).

This is going to be the sitting area part of the room.  Remember the French chairs I fell in love with?!?

Well, I’ve been learning how to fix the caning from my friend Nancy Bartlett.  Every Wednesday night I meet up with the most lovely women (each of us is working on different projects).  My chair and I go ever Wednesday and this is how she’s looking now:

It is a LONG process, but we’re getting there.  I will stain the cane once it is woven to match the back.

We’re also planning on replacing the small rug in this section and getting two more French chairs.

So there you have it.  The state of the living room and all my plans and wishes.  One day I’ll share it and it will be done but it isn’t yet.  I guess that is part of the journey of a house.  Living in it and with it and appreciating the steps (even baby ones).
