The Look of Love in the Dining Room
“4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
Corinthians 13:4-7
I remember it as clearly as yesterday. Sitting in my silk and beaded wedding gown, white silk gloves stretching up to my elbows and the most beautiful bouquet of lily of the valley in my lap. Luke’s father so eloquently reading this passage on what love is.
While we didn’t marry on Valentine’s. No we married on a wet and rainy day in Cornwall – May 25th and have been married for 13 years this year. In my marriage, I have found that:
Love is patient.
Love is kind.
To me Love is more than a Valentine’s card in a store. It is a bond, a promise: to always cherish this life we have built for each other and our children.
Love isn’t perfect, similarly neither is the way I like to decorate to celebrate this day. To create the look of love in our home. I use vintage lace that might have a little mark on it.
Vibrant pink tulips from the supermarket.
Oh, and this sweet little cherub I found at Gentleman & Daughter. I asked Dan if he could share the story of this piece with me.
I don’t think this one is very old but he found it on a house call sitting quietly outside in the rain, almost forgotten. The plaster chipping off and cracked in many places.
Something about him, reminded me of our youngest son, Conor.
The little nose and the delicate eyes looking up to heaven. He just had to come home with me.
This little cherub is now sitting on my chippy armoire in the corner of the dining room.
The tulips are now in a blue and white pitcher.
Love always protects always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Wishing you all so much love this week and always.
