On Saturday night, my husband and I had the great privilege to join the De Lisi Family as they launched Luca’s Light Foundation. This gala event was held at GLP Creative in Quincy, MA and had the most amazing food, entertainment and energy.

It was a very fun event. The food was spectacular. The Square Cafe in Hingham had delicious mini takeaway Chinese boxes filled with noodles tossed with spicy chili, cilantro, chicken and shaved carrots. Oro Restaurant of Scituate served Tuna Tartar and Braised Short Ribs. Drinks were served by Twist of Class. The DJ was spectacular and everyone had fun on the dance floor.
TV Personality, Barry Nolan, hosted a very funny and eventful live auction.

We even got in on the bidding. My friend, Abbie, and I won a trip up to New Hampshire for our families, including a condo stay and entry to Storyland. We are so excited for our families to go away together and so happy we could help raise even more for this great cause.

But for all the merriment and fun, we were there for a serious cause. Luca De Lisi passed away from a brain tumor at the age of 3. His name appropriately means “bringer of light”, and now it is the mission of his parents to keep “Luca’s Light” shining and to share their wisdom with others. At the gala, the De Lisi’s shared this video with all of us. Images and videos of their son Luca, who was filled with light, love and wisdom:
There was not a dry eye in the room. Tears streamed down my face as I listened to Jeff and Megan talk about their son and then saw him playing on the screen. It made me think, gosh, what would I do if John or Conor were diagnosed with a brain tumor or some other serious condition. What would I do, if one of my sons passed away after I did everything I could to keep them alive. This is a parent’s worst fear. I often complain about the little things, but this event brought home the big picture. Each and every day, children are dying. We learned about four families who’s children did not survive, but also heard of a now 13 year old who is alive despite the tumor they were unable to remove when she was only 3 months old.
The amazing thing about Luca’s Light Foundation is it assists families going through what they went through. According to the DeLisi’s:
“[The foundation] assists families who are caring for children with cancer. It is overwhelming when a family finds themselves in this situation and our goal is to help ease their burdens so that parents can focus on their child’s well being. Financial support for their most immediate practical needs will be provided and through a mother’s blog, families can become connected so that they can support one another.”
I’m so happy we were able to be a part of their launch event. I urge you all to go and visit their site to learn more about the great work they are doing.
