Max and Poppy – An Update

The Life of Our Rescue Dog Max

Little Max is growing quite big! He’s now over 8 pounds.

You may remember he was tiny when we got him, he was 4 pounds back in October, click here to read that post. I had every intention of sharing his progress week by week and did share how things were going after the first week, but time got away from me.

Max has been with us now for 6 weeks! Isn’t that crazy?!?

I’ve shared photos on Instagram and Facebook but many of you have emailed and asked how he’s doing and how Poppy is doing.

So thought I would share.

I know this photo is slightly soft focus, but this is how Max and Poppy are.

Two Beautiful Rescue Dogs - Max and Poppy

Constantly together.

Like the great duos – Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Bonnie and Clyde or Han and Chewie – Max and Poppy are quite the team. Where one is the other is sure to follow. Sometimes it’s Max trailing behind or occasionally he’s  in the lead.

At first play had to be on Poppy’s terms, but now she wants to play with him ALL THE TIME. They run around our fenced in yard. He grabs her tail and she flings him around. He climbs on her and she loves it.

Honestly, she’s been such a great “big sister”. I thought she might get jealous or give him the cold shoulder but she loves him. She has been so loving and caring and protective of him.

I walk them together and you should see how Max struts with Poppy by his side.

Gorgeous Dogs

They constantly want to be together but they do have time apart. Poppy sleeps on the guest bed and Max cuddles on my lap or in his crate. We’re still keeping him pretty confined to the kitchen for playing as that is “puppy proofed”, the Christmas trees are shimmering beacons he’s keen to explore and I’m hoping he doesn’t try to eat them or the glass ornaments. Sigh.

At night he snuggles with us on the couch. He loves anything with faux fur to sleep & snuggle in.

Sweet Puppy in Our Bedroom

You may be wondering what he’s looking at, but it’s Poppy…

His favorite playmate.

Max is doing so well socially too. Before he was worried about the noise in the harbor or with people and he’s getting so good with both. He goes on two long walks a day with Poppy and then runs around the yard with her.

Here’s a few videos of them together:

He looks quite slow compared to Poppy but he can run as fast as Conor!

I could watch them play all day long!

The boys love him to bits. Conor finally is brave enough to hold him:

Oh, and Max had his first trip to the beach where he dipped his toes in the water.

Our Puppy's First Time at the Beach

In terms of training, he’s finished up the pre-puppy training and I will take him for his first Puppy Training class in December. He’s doing great with house training.

We’re allowing him on the bed, when we can keep any eye on him.

Puppy Cuddles

Or when we want to snuggle.

Puppy cuddles are the best!

Max, mischievous pup.

It’s been a lot of work but I can’t imagine our live’s without him.

He is the sweetest little puppy.

They are too cute. It’s fun watching them play isn’t it. When Peanut and Reese bark to signal play time to one another, It makes my day
