Memorial Day Ideas
Memorial Day is a time to remember all those heroes. We usually celebrate by going to a parade and celebration in our town and come home to enjoy delicious food with friends and family.
I came across this photo from 2016. A simpler time when we were able to gather more freely. Without prompting John saluted and it made me cry. It’s one of my favorite photos.
He’d just taken part in the parade handing out flags –
Since then he’s marched with band playing his trumpet. Last year was the first year we were unable to attend due to the pandemic. John will be performing with the high school band this Memorial Day which we’re very much looking forward to! So I thought it might be fun to share some ideas for Memorial Day.
I’ve rounded up 8 Ideas!
8 Memorial Day Ideas
Hang the American Flag
We just bought a new flag for our home. I found this one at The Christmas Tree Shops along with the flag pole. It was pretty affordable. Click here for the flag and here for the flagpole. They’re currently available on Amazon.
I love adding little flags to the window boxes, too (as pictured above).
Package Up Some Portable Parfaits
These portable parfaits are quick and easy. Click here for the recipe. It’s pretty much an assembly job with fresh fruit, pound cake, and Coolwhip. I’m a huge fan of real whipped cream but this is just quick and easy.
The small jars make these sooooo cute. Conor has always loved them!
Craft a Starfish Wreath
Stars and stripes forever! Use starfish on a wreath you can enjoy the whole summer! Click here for the craft!
Mix Up Some Healthy Watermelon Slushies
These are so refreshing, especially if it’s a super hot day! We enjoy them all summer long. You can add some vodka if you want to make them into adult cocktails. Grab the recipe here.
Old Fashioned Potato Salad
Your friends and family will love this easy potato salad. It’s a classic and pairs so well with grilled chicken, fish or hot dogs & hamburgers straight off the grill! We enjoy growing our own potatoes but it isn’t potato season yet here. Save the recipe here.
Classic New England Lobster Salad Rolls
We love getting lobster from Mullaney’s in Scituate Harbor. Did you know you can buy the lobster meat already cooked?!? I always get it this way and it saves so much. Our classic New England Lobster Salad is served on a crusty toasted french baguette. My favorite potato chips are made right on Cape Cod – Cape Cod Potato Chips. A great way to celebrate Memorial Day!
Bake Rhubarb Crumble for Dessert
And for dessert, Rhubarb and apple crumble! Rhubarb is in season right now and that tangy tart flavor pairs perfectly with sweet, juicy strawberries. I love serving it warm with vanilla ice cream. Get our recipe here.
Make a Rustic American Flag
Using some paint and boards make your own American flag. It makes a pretty wall hanging our perfect buffet backdrop. Get the step by step DIY tutorial here.
