Meredith and Her Sister, A Tale of Two Dressers

Isn’t she quite attractive? She’s French with lovely curves and dovetail drawers. Oh, check out the beautiful brass pulls. Gorgeous.
When I got Meredith she was quite attractive, but a little dark. She also was missing two of her drawer pulls. Here she is before:

I really felt like my ASCP could bring out her inner beauty and show off her curves. I started with Old White:
Then added my favorite color Duck Egg Blue – beautiful and dreamy and perfect for a bedroom:
The drawers were waxed with clear wax and I thought about adding some dark wax and distressing but I just thought she looked so beautiful with the two tone color. The brass pulls needed a little bit of a clean:

I soaked them briefly in ammonia, wiping and rinsing cleaning. They shined up really nice. Here is one on the bureau:
I got replacement knobs from a wonderful antique shop in Cohasset. I could spend hours and hours in Reflections Antique Emporium because it is filled to the brim with the most amazing treasures. These little pulls were just tucked away on a shelf waiting for me:

I know, not the best ‘before’ photo, but here she is now. She also got the same ASCP treatment in the same colors and clear wax:
So there are my two French lovelies. I am in love with both these pieces so much and wish I could keep them but my house is just to small for both of them. Meredith and Isabelle will be looking for a new home soon. What do you think? C’est magnifique?

Kristi, ASCP is Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. Her website is: http://www.anniesloan.com/acatalog/paints.html I get my paints from the Sea Rose Cottage in RI. Nancy’s website is: http://searosecottage.com/. The best things about the chalk paint is there is no need for priming or sanding and it is really easy to work with and there are no VOCs. I highly recommend it.

Marlene, Thank you so much for you nice comments. So these pieces were very dark. I ended up doing three coats of the old white and two coats of the duck egg blue. Duck Egg is my favorite Annie Sloan color. I used two coats of clear wax after. I learned for Annie Sloan in Boston that if you are doing kitchen cabinets you should do three thin coats of paint and two coats of wax. There might be more information on her website too. did u wax this one or finish it at all? I want to use chalk paint but i don’t want the distressed look so I’m wondering what to finish it with
Thanks so much for your message! I waxed it with Annie Sloan Clear Wax. 2 coats on whole piece and three on top. No distressing.
I am in love with Meredith and Isabelle too. They’re absolutely gorgeous! I have a low dresser and high dresser that are very dark and I want to paint them with chalk paint. I read your above comment and you used three coats of Old White… that’s very helpful! How many cans did you need? Two? I also love the Duck Egg Blue drawers (I have old handles that I’ve decided to keep because I like vintage, they just need some love to shine.) Thank you so much for your comment! I was so happy with how these two ladies came out! A friend bought one so I get to see it sometimes. I think you would be fine with one can of Old White. The paint goes pretty far because it is thicker than latex paint. You’ll have to share how your dressers come out. I’m sure they will be fine. You really can’t mess up paint, if you don’t like it you can just paint over it. Good luck! x
