Mind Your ‘Peas’ and Q’s
Conor (2) on Minot Beach with driftwood he just found. |
Conor is enjoying only child status while his big brother is at Kindergarten. After his 2nd birthday his words are really coming along, unlike John who was able to a have full on conversations at 14 months. I told the pediatrician that I was worried at Conor’s 18 month appointment due to his lack of conversation, but the doctor assured me the words would come.
The words spring out of Conor’s mouth now in coherent sentences, sometimes tirades when he’s in a terrible-two strop. As you know from previous posts, he likes talking about dig-ga’s and dirt. He also loves helping me find ‘poo’ in the yard or in his diaper. He loves to help Daddy with the ‘mower’ in the back garden or help me sweep with his ‘bbrrroooom’. He loves to ride ‘bikes’ in the front yard and call after Poppy with ‘woof, woof’. But he truly loves Minot Beach. Yesterday, he wouldn’t stop saying ‘beach’ and then when we finally got there was telling me all the things he saw ‘bird’, ‘boat’, toy ‘dig-ga’.
The most endearing is his ‘please’ and ‘thank you’s (p’s and q’s as they say in the UK). He used to wave at people to say thank you and would only point as a please, but now he pleads with me. The other day, this little voice in the backseat was saying, “Peas, Mommy, peas” for licorice bites and ‘memonade’ (lemonade). How can you resist that? He got three licorice sticks and two small cups of lemonade. Thank you is “ta!” Very English -indeed. I have a feeling Mr. C is going to be getting everything he wants now he is minding his P’s and Q’s!
