Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint & Fun Little Mixer

Is there anything better than finding gorgeous furniture at a yard sale?!?  Yes, there is one thing better. Painting said furniture outside in the sunshine.

I feel like it has been Christmas around here.  I found several great pieces at a yard sale last weekend. These ladies are just waiting to be painted!  Then on Friday a huge box of goodies arrived from my friend Nancy at the Sea Rose Cottage.  I ordered a bunch of Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint.
I don’t know how the weather was where you live on Saturday, but here in Scituate it was a gorgeous fall-like day. There was a light breeze and sunshine.  Ahhh!  Just thinking of it makes me happy.

Here’s the little lady I painted on Saturday:

I know, she’s seen happier times, but look at her lovely details!  A bit on the door is missing but that is okay.  I LOVE the hardware.  It looks a bit like art nouveau.  Her cabriole legs are lovely too.

When I saw her I knew she had to come home with me….

I found just the perfect color for her too!  I chose to paint her in Eulalie’s Sky, one of Marian’s new milk paint colors.  This color is just gorgeous for those of you who love blue.

It is a luscious color.  I think it might be my favorite MMS milk paint color!

Many of you have lamented about issues with mixing milk paint.  I know I’ve had issues, especially with Tricycle.  I have the perfect little tool to share with you.  A new mixer for milk paint and Nancy has LOADS in stock.

I first mixed the powder with warm water and a regular stirrer.

Just to get the powder wet enough.  Then I got my mini mixer out.  Don’t you just love the blue hue of the mixer?!?

I get excited about these things!

See how frothy it makes the paint, kind of like a latte!  Yum!  Oh, but don’t drink the milk paint.

I wish I could share the finished piece today, but you’re just gonna have to wait a wee bit longer.  I have a little white waxing to do first.

But here’s a little peek:

Yup, it’s chipping in all the right places.  Isn’t that color gorgeous?!?

Oh, and I found the perfect spot in our dining room!

I need one of those mixers as I tried some MMS milk paint (CJ from Juniper and Roses sent me a couple of samples) and I couldn’t get the lumps out, though I did like the paint !
The cabinet looks great so far, looking forward to the finished result

If you have an IKEA near you, they carry those exact stirrers ( I use one for my coffee every morning), for like 3 bucks! I don’t know how much this one costs but I thought I’d share.

Great tip, Nicole. These aren’t much more expensive than Ikea – they are $8. I wish my Ikea would get the chip brushes back in stock. Every time I go they’re out.

I’ve still been so chicken to try Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint. I’m so afraid to get it just the right consistency or mixing too much and wasting it. This is little mixer sure does look handy though. And Eulalie’s Sky is just gorgeous! I can’t wait to see this piece finished!
