More Joyrides and Antiques

Yesterday morning I went on a little jaunt with two of my favorite people – my mom and my son, Conor. We went on an antique joy ride.  Conor has started antiquing quite young.  I’ve been taking him since he was a baby and he’s been bitten by the bug.  He treasures a tiny, china, leopard he found on one of our trips and can’t sleep if isn’t on his night stand to protect him.

You may remember I wrote about this before in  Joyrides and Antiques.  One of my favorite antique / vintage shops is Salvage Chic in Hanson.  It is a bit of ways from my home, but I’m never disappointed when I go there.

Yesterday was no exception!  The store was filled with so many great things.  I love this section, where all the nautical pieces are:

I didn’t have anything in particular I was searching for, but the fun is in the hunt and the digging and the rummaging and if you find that something special then that is a bonus.
I did find some really wonderful things.  Look at these pieces that were from old telephone lines.  I just simply loved the sea glass blue color (you may have realized by now that blue is my favorite color) and thought they would be gorgeous on my mantel with shells for the summer:
I also found this spectacular mahogany side table with a hidden drawer.  It needs a little repair work – ie. glue and perhaps a bit of new wood in the drawer, but with that and a little of my Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.  Well, I think it will just sparkle.  Anyone have any color ideas?:
Here is a close up picture of the detail:

All that treasure hunting tired Conor out.  He had a bit of kip while we searched some more…
My mom, the ultimate antique enthusiastic and thrifter, even negotiated with a man who came in trying to sell stuff through Salvage Chic.  She scored this amazing boat for John’s room.  You all know that I’m doing up his nautical room.  Won’t this look perfect?
The name on the boat sounds a bit like a dirty word – Gorch Fock – it is a German ship.  I’ll let you figure that dirty word out.  Here is the back:
It was such a great day.  Three generations sharing the joys of joyrides and antiques.  We stopped for a slice next door and we all went home happy!
