My Pass it On Gifts – Driftwood Sailboats
Driftwood Sailboats |
I’ve been dying to share my Pass It On projects with you for a while, but I only just got Cheryl’s to her the other week. You know how crazy summer can be with trips and travel.
In June, I wrote about the Pass it On Project which Karah from The Space Between started. The lovely Fiona, of Just Paint it White, made me a beautiful twine holder and I passed one on to my mom. If you missed the post you can find it here.
This project is such a beautiful idea. It is sharing the love in a very tangible way using one’s own creativity. There was no limit or guidelines. I could decide what I wanted to make. I love combing the beach for treasures with my two little guys so thought making driftwood sailboats would be fun and also would enable me to share the beaches I love with two friends. I love the rustic quality of driftwood and the mix of pure linen fabric with it!
Here’s how they came out:

I used two pieces of driftwood. A longer thin piece for the mast and a flattish piece for the body of the boat. To make them we drilled a small hole in the body of the boat and affixed the mast with some epoxy glue. Once dry, I cut linen into triangle shapes and attached with fun striped twine and eyes.
What do you think? I passed on the love to my good friend, Cheryl. Her blog, Its Two AM, is wonderful and filled with beautiful images of her beautiful projects. I also shared two little driftwood sailboats with Heidi, of All that Brings Joy. Heidi shares so may beautiful painted projects on her blog. Hope you check out their blogs and think about taking part in the Pass It On Project. I’m so happy I did!

Love them Danielle, they’re so gorgeous, what a great gift to pass on to your friends. The fact that you collected the wood locally, makes them so lovely and personal. xx
Very cute and what a sweet gift!
They are adorable and I was so excited that you thought of me!! 🙂 I’ve been terribly busy this summer also and after proudly displaying my boat I never thought about who I would give the other one to. But this week we’re visiting a cousin in Holland Michigan where a driftwood sailboat will most definitely fit in to her decor and I’m so excited to surprise her with it! 🙂 Thanks again Danielle, and it’s time for me to decided who and what to pass on now!!!
Gracious; I can’t tell you now much I’ve enjoyed reading through your blog!! Just discovered you a couple of days ago; these driftwood sailboats are adorable; I can’t wait for my next ocean trip to find some wood of my own. I’m going to read through a bit more before the boys wake up, but wanted to leave a comment; I’ll be back again!
Jennifer, you made my morning reading this! Thank you so much for your sweet comment. So glad you found the blog. I think your boys would love to search for some driftwood and help you make these sweet boats. 🙂
