Namaste: Yoga for Every Body
Downward Dog on the beach |
Good morning, All! The sea mist has rolled in and the day promises to be somewhat missy mog after a great weekend in Scituate. I think a craft and movie day is in store for us.
Are people who practice yoga happier? I think so. I know I don’t lose my patience with the kids as much and I just feel an over-all sense of well being. I breath easier and weight feels like it has lifted off my shoulders. For lack of a better word I feel balanced. I know my kids and husband are happier, too, on the days I go.
For example, today (if I was able to participate) I would have already practiced at Balance Yoga Studio in Cohasset and be ready to face a day of household tasks, cabin fever due to the weather and anything else that comes my way. Sadly, I can’t with my “Runner’s Knee”, but the good news is it is feeling better. Balance is a great studio and I absolutely love the classes they offer – hot vinyassa flow, balance barre, pilates etc. When you walk into the studio, you are greeted by the smell of soothing lavender, bamboo floors and the friendly teachers and students. I’m really missing it right now.
My 5 year old is very active and has loads of energy. He really enjoys yoga and it helps channel all the over-stimulation from his busy day. He started practicing with my good friend, Kim, in her Inspire Kids Yoga classes. Miss Kim (as she is affectionately known to the kids) is so great at what she does. She captures their energy and leads them through imaginative poses and games. John really loves taking part in her backyard yoga classes which consist of games, dancing, music, crafts and healthy snacks all in her lush garden. Miss Kim has star status in our household, when John runs into her it is like he has run into a celebrity. I’m told by Kim that John created a yoga pose called Hammerhead Shark which she now teaches in all her classes.
If you are local, I highly recommend getting your butt to Balance Studio for some adult relaxation and signing your child up for one of Miss Kim’s classes.
Namaste!
