On The Water – A New Collection

Hi friends! This summer feels like the quickest on record. We can’t believe John is leaving for RISD in less than 2 weeks. It’s been quite a busy summer and John has spent most of it painting some beautiful gouache illustrations of an assortment of boats and some other lovely illustrations. We are so excited to share the “On the Water” collection with you today!

A New Collection

A Young Artist

I started this blog 13 years ago when John was 5 years old. So I know many of you have watched him grow into a young man. Since a very young age he loved to draw and create and had the most amazing imagination. It has been such an honor to be his mom. You may be interested in reading some posts I wrote for him, for his 10th birthday and on his graduation.

We launched this summer with an Open Studio at our home and it was such a beautiful day.

A Note From John

I thought John would be the best person to tell you about the new collection. Here is more from him:

Hey everybody! This summer I’ve worked on a whole load of new designs that I am so excited to share with you all. It’s so good to be back designing cards, and I cannot wait for you to see everything we have in store.

One of the first things you might notice about this collection is the medium. Unlike my other cards, which up to this point have all been digital, these are hand painted! After working with gouache for a few years now, I knew it was something I absolutely needed to share with you all in the next collection, and I hope you enjoy the new look as much as I do.

Ever since we first started in 2019, one of the big questions I was always asked was whether I had a card with my logo’s tug boat, and when the answer was no, if I’d be bringing out a boat card any time soon. I’m happy to say this collection is all about boats! (along with two bonus coastal summer cards).

Sailboat Note Card

One of my favorite pieces has got to be “Sailboat on the Water”. In addition to being our first ever full-bleed, hand painted card, to me it evokes so much of what makes summer on the coast so special. It’s feeling the salt from the sea spray crackling on your skin, the sound of a wind that rises and rises in your ears as you start to take off, and the crisp ocean air rushing out, around, and passed you as that strong gust you caught graduates to a gale, and all of a sudden it feels like you’re flying.

I’ve been wanting to revamp Ink Harbour for some time now, and seeing all the work from this summer finally come together into this little selection has been amazing.
