Oriental Rug Pillows
Brrrr! We’ve just been buried in snow again, and while I think the snow is pretty, I’m ready to just lounge on the couch and curl up with lots of DIY Addict.
Speaking of our couch, check out these gorgeous oriental rug pillows.
I got them at my friend Dan’s shop, Gentleman and Daughter. The pillows are about 22″ x 22″ and are upcycled from oriental rugs. The rugs are c. 1890-1900. They were made into pillows more recently and the backing is a luxurious burgundy velvet.
One is more worn than the other.
But I love that look.
The colors woven into the pillow are chocolate browns, muted reds, cream and the most vibrant blue. You can see how nice the other one looks with the Florentine table, neutral linen curtains and our white walls.
Aren’t they gorgeous?
I can’t help but wonder who used to walk upon these rugs or what lovely person turned an old worn rug into lovely pillows that now grace our couch. I loved how the Ikea ones looked on our couch when I shared How to Get the Restoration Hardware Look for Less here. BUT I have to admit I love how these add warmth, character and a kind of richness for winter. They are really big and cushy and are perfect for all my HGTV viewing, curled up with a big furry blanket.
Mine were found at an antique store, but if you want to achieve this look, here are some I found online. Please only pin this collage and the above images.

How sweet is this tribal rug pillow from Traveling Light Etsy Shop? It is from 1910 and would look so sweet on a slipcovered white chair. The colors in this pillow are very similar to the ones on my couch. They almost look identical!
Pottery Barn has a set of three Kilim pillow covers which are more neutral in tone. Warm browns, tans and pinks:
The Textile Gallery based in Turkey has many, many turkish rug pillows to chose from. I think this one is my favorite:
If you like blues and yellows, then this one might be the one for you! It is sold by Medreana Design! It is a 50 year old Turkish prayer rug.
Domino has a few vintage pillows that I love. This one was hand-wove by Berber women in Morocco. I really love the colors in it and think it would look nice in a living area or sunroom:
Finally, this one would look fabulous in a bedroom! It is from The Curious Moose. It is a very old Persian Ersari rug pillow with a velvet backing.
These pillow are all wonderful options if you want to add a bit of texture and color to your couch or living areas! Sometimes in winter we needed a little more pattern (and maybe spring to arrive early!!!!).
