Our Bedroom and a New Project
I realized the other day while clutter busting our bedroom, per advice from my friend Debra Smouse, that I haven’t really shown you much of that room.
Of course, you saw it when we first moved in with Conor running about excitedly
but we’ve been here for 6 months and it is starting to feel a bit more like us. Of course you remember Isla. How could you forget her?!? She was a keeper and fits perfectly on our closet wall.
I’ve finally hemmed the curtains. I don’t even want to count the months that they hung with about 2 ft of extra material dragging on the floor. I’ve also tidied up the our messy closets. Clothes were falling on top of me!!!
Thank you Ikea storage bins and those lovely tips from Debra. I donated tons of clothes and organized what I decided to keep.
Better, right? Still need to sort through my shoes a bit.
I’m sure you recognize that “reclaimed” wood headboard. It looks perfect in this house. I’m going to make a fabric scrap garland out of the leftover linen from the curtains, some spare burlap and ribbons. I loved the starfish one we made in our last house, but wanted to change it up. Do you remember that bedside table?!?
So this is our seaside sanctuary.
A room that I love to sit on the bed propped up by pillows and pour over magazines. Tinkered Treasures, by my friend – Elyse, makes the perfect Christmas gift (just saying!!!)
The room is filled with soft sea glass colors, sea shells and chippy painted furniture.
This Paris Grey vanity that makes the perfect spot for writing a note or jotting down ideas.
A little hint of Christmas joy sits on top in the vintage enamel pitcher:
The room isn’t “done” yet by any means but thought I’d share how it was looking. We still need to hang some pictures up and decorate a bit more.
Oh, and this piece is next up for a makeover:
It is a dresser that my friend, Tanya, found for us before we moved. It is so heavy and Luke and I moved it down tons of stairs and kept it in storage until we moved. It fits so perfectly here. I love that pale blue, but it just seems to clash with the walls.
So I’ve been sketching and planning out a new look for this lovely 1930s armoire. Here are my ideas in my Annie Sloan Work Book.
I started working on it yesterday and can’t wait to share the big reveal soon.
What do you think of our beachy bedroom?

Thank you, Mary! So excited to share the armoire with you later this week. I love how it came out. x
I love the peaceful, romantic feeling in your bedroom, Danielle. It`s so lovely!
So calming. It is already an oasis; enjoy your work in progress. I too have closet doors removed and replaced with curtains. Some folks don’t like that look but I surely do. Thanks for posting such nice pics.
Thank you, Leonie! I love that relaxed and informal look. Thank you for such sweet comments. x
I love it too, Danielle. Sometimes less is more, as they say! Your home is lovely – I love Scituate, my daughter lives there with her three children – Will, Maryn and Maggie. Such a wonderful seaside town.
Thank you, Janice. Scituate is such an amazing place. We feel so lucky to live here and for our boys to grow up in such an amazing town.
Your bedroom feels so calm and cosy Danielle, I really love it, and I’m sure you’ll do a fantastic job on the armoire.
