Our New Home: A House Tour (Part 2)
On Wednesday you had your first peek inside. I promised you a visit to the second floor today. Shall we go up the apples and pears?
At the top of the stairs, you are greeted by this fantastic landing. The previous owners put this lovely molding in along with a transom window to add light to the bathroom.
The first door you come to when you turn the corner is Luke’s office.
He’s so happy to have an office with a door! Oh, and two closets. The one on the left is a cedar closet. I think I’ll be putting all my cashmere sweaters in there!
All the bedrooms are off a long corridor. The first bedroom, after the office is John’s room:
In between the two boys’ rooms is a little secret doorway. They are so excited about this pass through. Here is Conor’s room if you are looking through that doorway:
Yes, I know it is pink and he sure isn’t happy about that right now. He wanted it painted the day we moved in!
Their rooms are going to be nautical in theme as before – ticking stripe, soft muted sea tones with fun bedding and many momentos from the beach. Oh, I have to show you this sweet hidey hole:
It is right next to Conor’s bed. He likes to go in and hang out in there. I’ve put a soft lambskin and some pillows along with his favorite books. I think this might get a fun paint job with some little helpers this weekend.
Opposite the boys’ rooms is the bathroom. I love this room! This is the nicest bathroom I’ve had in all my grown up years. I’m going to linger here for a few moments.
The space in the shower area is huge and airy. The tiling is wonderful and I love the beading they did along the colored tiles.
The previous owners took this room down to the studs and they did such a fabulous job. They thought of everything – built in storage including an area for linens and hamper areas, as well as, dimmers on all the lights.
Next to the bathroom is what will be our guest room. Think shabby chic for this room; possibly painting the walls Benjamin Moore Glass Slipper with chalk painted furniture and shabby chic bedding.
Yes, there is Conor in another hidey hole. John is upset that his room doesn’t have one!
Finally at the end of the hall is the master bedroom. I love these pale gray walls and white molding. Our “reclaimed wood” headboard looks great in here.
This room is not original to the house which explains the electric heat. It was an addition that was done later to add extra room for a growing family.
As you can see, Conor was so excited to come home from school to his new house. He kept running all over the place.
This master closet goes the entire length of the wall so there is extra storage. I’m planning on getting some curtains either some ruffly shabby chic style ones or maybe some burlap. I also have a new piece of furniture for this room which I can’t wait to work on.
The only other area of the house you haven’t seen is the basement and it is HUGE. It is a full basement which I will use for Silver Pennies. I’ll be able to store furniture and paint to my heart’s content. This will also be the kids arts and crafts area and John has already told me it is his desire to “have a drawing table with an angle poised lamp and a stack of paper.”
So there is our new home. Can’t wait for you to join us on this journey. I’m bursting with ideas for furniture, wall color, fabrics. So glad I have all of you to bounce ideas off of!
Congratulations on your new home!!! Thanks for giving us a peek at it. It’s beautiful!

It will be fun to see what you do with it. It’s always exciting to get in on the “ground floor” so to speak. Congratulations!
