Our New Rattan Bed
We’re still in the process of making over our bedroom but our new rattan bed arrived and wanted to show you how it looks!
If you’re new around here it might be good for me to give you a little recap….Luke and I were perfectly happy with our original bedroom BUT we decided to room swap with our two boys (ages 14 and 11) who had shared a bedroom. The boys were sooooooo excited! It meant they’d each have their own room and space to work. We did over Conor’s NEW room and I shared the reveal here. We’re currently working on John’s bedroom, our bedroom and our WFH shared office.
Our new bedroom was the original principal bedroom of the house but it had been divided and turned into “two” bedrooms. We took that divider wall down when we originally did the kids room over here.
We now have the biggest bedroom in the house! Yay! Having a large room means flexibility with beds and bedside table.

I shared our plans here. Back in September we visited Serena & Lily as we really loved the look of the Balboa Bed. I previously shared our lighting here.
This may sound strange but this is our very first bed!!!! Luke made us a headboard at our last house and our previous bedroom was so small we opted for no headboard or bed. So this is quite exciting and we spent a lot of time researching and sourcing before taking the plunge. Here are some other coastal beds we were thinking of.
Well, the bed arrived and I’m so excited to share how it looks!
This is a reflection in the mirror on our closet door:
I’m going for a calm and coastal look but also love antiques and vintage pieces so mixing my love for those in, too. I like the mix of vintage and modern together. Modern seems to make the vintage feel fresh but old pieces bring a warmth to space.
We went with the Balboa Bed because we were so impressed with the craftsmanship. The bed is made in Indonesia by artisans. They start with a solid mahogany frame and weave it in rattan. The weaves are intricate and varied along the bed.
Here are some detailed shots of the weaving:
I LOVE color variation of the rattan. It gives a subtle nod to coastal or island style without being over the top. I also love the brass end caps on each foot.
Max loves the bed just as much as we do. The bed is just as much Max and Poppy’s as it ours! Poppy sleeps under our bed and Max usually sleeps between us!
I shared a little peek of this over on Instagram the other day.
I’m not finished yet with this room, but think it’s fun to share our progress.
I really love how the vintage washstand looks on the left side.
Luke and I found a wonderful vintage piece that could work on the other side, but we still have the faux soapstone nightstand Luke built there for now.
I like the closed in storage the washstands offer. I also want to fill this room with plants! I just put these in here for the photos 😉
I’m loving the white bedding which we already had. White just makes me happy but think I’d like to find a painting or photograph for above our bed and we’re still looking for a swivel chair for the corner of our room. The curtains I want are still out of stock at Ikea (sigh).
Do you love our new rattan bed as much as we do?

Happy New Year to you and your family!
I love your new bed…I love wicker and rattan for it’s beauty and craftsmanship. I’m so glad it’s popular again. A peacock chair or papasan chair would be nice in your bedroom, if you have the space for it. Looking forward to how you finish the room. You always do a beautiful job.

Happy New Year, Christine! I love wicker and rattan, too. Ooooh, that’s a good idea regarding the peacock or papasan chair. We don’t have a huge spot for a chair but will keep my eye open. I’m having so much fun working slowly on this space. 😉
Love your new bed! The room is beautiful.
Thanks, Debra! We love how it looks. The room is still a work in progress but we’re getting there.
Also looks like it has pups approval. So cute.
Max LOVES the new bed 😉
I absolutely love it! We have been eyeing it too so glad to hear a good review! I can’t wait to see your completed room makeover! Enjoy your bed!
Oh, Kelly, it is a beautifully made bed! I highly recommend it!
Is your ceiling also simply white? were also thinking of doing a dark trim in our master, we have a house with similar dark wood trim
Hi Emily, yes, our ceiling is Simply White in Benjamin Moore’s ceiling paint. I love having the dark woodwork in our home 😉
