Our New Sectional
My dreams of a white sectional are over. I’m so excited to share our new sectional with you today.
Okay, okay, I know what some of you are thinking. Is Dani crazy????
She has two dogs that shed.
Two boys that are messy.
But hang on, keep reading and I’ll share why we decided to go with this couch after careful thought and deliberation.
We found this beauty over the weekend after searching and sitting on couches and sectionals for a year.
You may remember our Chesterfield. Of course you do. I dreamed of finding one and then miraculously one popped up one night when I did a Craigslist search. I searched “tufted sofa” and voila the couch was there. You can read more about it here. In case this is your first visit, here’s how it was looking last week when I took a few fall photos.
I LOVED everything about that couch. I loved the warm brown hue, the tufted finish, the gorgeous nailhead trim and I love how it made our living room feel like England. This couch was amazing, BUT our boys are growing and aren’t so little anymore. We love to watch movies together on Friday nights and hang out in here but there wasn’t enough room for everyone on the couch. Someone would have to sit on the rocking chair or our wingback chair in the corner.
May will mark 5 years in our home and over time I’ve come to understand that a home is about the quality time we spend in it. Sometimes I have ideas that maybe aren’t the most practical or didn’t function well for our family. Around Christmas time last year, I took a hard look at our home and how we were using it and I decided I wanted to enjoy our home and use EVERY room. So the first thing we changed was the dining room and Luke built a beautiful farmhouse table that we can all fit around. It’s beautiful but also practical.
We decided as a family that we wanted a sectional that was deep, that we could sink back into and that had rolled arms. We considered two couches but we realized we just didn’t have enough room. We took the boys to many, many stores just to look and sit and ponder which one to choose.
I also thought it would be good to experiment with photoshop to try some changes to the room without spending any money. I took Layla and Rachel’s photoshop class at Haven and updated our living room with a white couch, painted brick on the fireplace and painted the cabinet blue. I wish DIY was that easy! Here’s how my inspiration image came out:
I’m so glad I did this because it confirmed that a white couch would make our living room look bigger and brighter.
We saved up enough money and took the boys with us to buy a couch. We went to one store and were a little disappointed so went to Boston Interiors. This post is not sponsored or affiliated with Boston Interiors. We had previously seen a couch there but it was very big. The one we liked it the showroom was 145 x 145 and, um, our room isn’t that wide. We decided the absolute widest we could do was 115 x 115. We knew wanted rolled arms and a washable slipcover. In the Stoughton, MA location they have a showroom and a Clearance Center. I really didn’t think I’d find a white section in the clearance section, but guess what??????
The boys ran down to not one but two white sectionals saying, “Mommy, we found the couch!!!!”
The couch was 100 x 100.
I couldn’t believe our luck! We ended up saving $1300 by buying the clearance couch. Yay! If you’ve been following along on Facebook or Instagram you maybe have seen some peeks of the couch and also our selling the Chesterfield. I’m happy to report that Chesterfield went home with the loveliest couple in Wakefield. She follows my blog and contacted me via Instagram. Yay! The couch arrived yesterday and I need to give a huge shout out for wonderful delivery service. The guys even put on white gloves.
We went with the Sonoma Two Piece Sectional by Rowe it has feathersoft cushions. The white cotton slipcover is washable and preshrunk. I think this is discontinued but I called Boston Interiors to find out what would be similar for you guys and they said the Fairbanks Sectional. The difference is that our sectional is slightly deeper with a higher back and is a brighter white.
Okay, now I’m gonna inundated you with photos. I couldn’t help myself.
You guys, this sectional is the most comfortable couch I’ve ever sat on. You sink into the pillows and it’s deep enough to sit waaaaayyyy back. As I type this we’re gonna watch recordings of This is Us tonight and I’m just so excited for TV time on the couch.
Our coffee table is too big so I moved it out of shot. I’m selling it if anyone is interested. You can see the table here. I’m thinking about an old trunk or maybe a round coffee table. What do you guys think?
Some of the pillows were delivered with the couch, like these blue ones and white ones. I was surprised about that. The pink also came but they kind of clash with our rug.
The lighthouse pillow is from my Society6 shop (affiliate link).
Here’s a wider shot, but I had to put the blinds down because of how the light was coming in the windows:
I still plan on painting that cabinet but I might move it too.
This new white sectional feels so much more coastal to me. Lighter, airier, brighter. Do you agree?
While we were at it we moved some furniture in the other part of the room too. Here’s how that space is looking, the view from our front hall into the living room:
The two white chairs are from Ikea and used to be in front of the windows. The gray couch was from Target & used to be up in Luke’s office. I love that we now have two sitting areas and it’s so cozy in here 😉
You may remember that we created this faux galvanized table.
I’m already thinking about where the Christmas tree will go….
I know this room is in progress, but wanted to share our new sectional and also wanted to share the plans. Fingers crossed I find the perfect coffee table that fits the space. I’ve banned ALL food from the living room and we’ll be eating all meals either in the kitchen or our dining room.
The boys were so excited to try it out. They’re fighting over the corner spot. Snapped this with phone when they got home from school.
What do you think of our new couch?
Love your new sectional. I’m a Boston Interiors customer myself and frequent the Stoughton store usually (the Hanover location also has a nice show room!).I have seen many great pieces in the clearance room over the years – so happy you found what you were looking for there! It looks fabulous.
Lovely! I wanted a white couch but didn’t have the courage to go for it. Glad you found what you were looking for! Looking forward to more pictures as you complete the room.
Danielle, looks beautiful and cozy, great find! Reminds me very much of the Ikea Ektorp Sectional that I had in white with washable covers which is so great with kids and dogs. We downsized to the light blue Ektorp Sectional, 3-seat which is also great and you can move the chaise piece to right or left. I wanted to tell you about a neat find – washable rug – ruggable.com. Check it out. We have dogs and kids and you can just throw it in washing machine! We got the Suzani Coral 5×7 and have had to wash it several… Read more »
It’s beautiful! I envy you gals that can have white furniture…we have red dirt which stains everything! And with two big dogs and a sometimes careless husband, I don’t dare! 🙂 Your boys are just too cute! I bet you will enjoy that sofa for years to come! Good choice and smart to reaccess your spaces to make them more useable!
Love your new couch! It fits the style direction you have been creating. Coffee tables are always tough. A trunk would give you storage and a coastal vibe, however a round table is good for not banging legs on as you circumnavigate it! I tend to be a clutz so I personally avoid sharp edges. ?
Looks great! I recently bought the Ikea slip cover chaise couch in white and love it as well! coffee table shape is also something I am trying to figure out….I am thinking round, hopefully in leather to give my room some added texture. Good luck!
We have been renovating our 1928 cottage and even though the living room area is a smaller space, we also decided on a white slip covered sectional. Since it’s mostly my husband and I most of the time. We wanted something that we could stretch out on… on both ends! I love the look of it , I love that we can wash those covers, and I love the freshness the off white slips bring to our neutral space. We had to downsize our coffee table too!
Enjoy every cozy minute on your new sofa!
I LOVE it all, where to begin. The new sectional is gorgeous, and oh, so perfect for that room! I adore the second seating area too! How cozy is that! The entire room screams family fun, cozy cuddly nights, and decorating that gorgeos room, for the holidays will be so much fun! You did a fabulous job! It’s just so inviting!
It certainly does look more Coastal and brighter. Such a deal! If it were me, I’d go with a round coffee table. Furniture with sharp corners leaves bruises if one is near-sighted or clumsy. Don’t ask me how I know…
Danielle, Love the white sofa it looks great. You should always buy what you love; Life is too short to be “practical” all of the time. I recommend you go with a large round coffee table. It will bring everything together. I admire your ability to quickly sell pieces and get things done, and the way you experiment with so many different things. My house is somewhat similar to yours – a very old Dutch Colonial revival – , so I’m always interested in what you are doing. I love your ebook which I I purchased last year, it’s always… Read more »
We have a Rowe sectional too! It’s similar to yours, but not slipcovered. Bought it a few years back and still love it.
Love the new sectional. I hope you find just the right coffee table right away! My living room is 15′ wide x 18′ long and the fireplace is 9′ long! Unfortunately it’s to the far right on the 18′ wall across from the entry and that makes it really challenging to work around! About 10 years ago I bought a larger coffee table that is also taller than what I had before. Suddenly the overly large fireplace didn’t look so out of place!
Pretty, pretty! Your room feels more airy, still warm & inviting. Nice pick! Ohhhh the xmas tree, I always have to rearrange furniture for the tree. I love our tree where we can see it from all directions & while watching tv. How much fun you’ll have with holiday throws & pillows, anything goes with white & will stand out better than your former dark sofa.
Really nice choice, enjoy!
What about a round coffee tabke suzed leather ottoman? I like to look things up in Houzz when I making changes . As I saud before love the sectional.
The new sectional looks great!!! I also love the second seating area. The whole room looks so cozy!!
Beautiful! I would go with round coffee table. Thanks for the pictures.
It looks great. I am a traditionalist and love the rolled arm and skirted bottom, I think it makes the couch and room look more cozy. My mother-in-law always had slip covered pieces and washed them regularly. I can see why white was so tempting.
You have got me convinced my next couch with have slipcovers, glad you did your research and took the time to find the best for your family. Sometimes people only buy the “look” not whether it is comfortable, will fit the room or I will I be happy with this decision.
