Our Walls Are Bare

and soon our cupboards will be too!

I wish I could share a before & after project with you today.  I wish I had been able to stop at all the wonderful yard sales we’ve been whizzing past.

Unfortunately today is not the day for that.

Today, I am packing and according to my hubby can not go to a yard sale until after the move….

Over the weekend we packed up the pictures…

I filled two boxes with my collection of shells.  I know, my collection is bordering on shell hoarding.  China, crystal, and glasses all have been packed.  Today, it is the blue ball jars and small appliances turn!

Originally this post was going to be all about packing tips.  Some lovely friends and readers have shared so many with me, but really I’m winging this packing thing.  The china was carefully wrapped in packing paper and placed vertically.  I’m hoping it doesn’t all shatter…

As the house is becoming more and more sparse, I’m feeling a little sad, a little nostalgic.  Our house is starting to not feel like home anymore.  It is starting to feel like we are just staying here for a bit longer.  Our family photos are no longer here to remind me of all these wonderful moments in this house.

There are so many things I will miss.

I will miss how the light in the morning comes in through the blinds in our bedroom.  That soft light on the swiss dot pattern.  I’m always so thrilled to start the day when I see that bright sunshine.

I’ll miss the lily of the valley that is planted along the side of the house.  It is my favorite flower and my good friend, MaryAnn, gave me heaps from her garden.  Smelling it always reminds me of my wedding day.

I love watching my little guys race on their bikes in the front drive.  We have a fantastic circular driveway and they are constantly racing –  scooters, bikes, running!  I love hearing their laughter and debates over who won, always asking me for the final call!

I’ll miss seeing the pond from our living room.

I’ll miss seeing beautiful clematis that the boys gave me one Mother’s Day.  It has the most beautiful deep purple blooms.  I’ve never seen one so beautiful.  It hasn’t started to bud yet, but I know the new owners will enjoy seeing it this year.

The move is next Tuesday.  In less than a week, we’ll be moving out.  I’ll be sure to share it all with you, but for now, I’m packing and am a tiny bit sad.  But also so very excited about all that is to come.

I know I’ll be the same, thinking of all the memories. It’s such a mixed bag of emotions! Good luck these next few days!!

Good luck with the ” finishing ” up –
One of the saddest things from my last move was leaving my beloved garden – my kids had bought me a Magnolia – just about broke my heart to walk away from it!
We’re preparing another move again – so know exactly what you mean – it most definitely is bittersweet
Much love,
Suzan

Most of us probably know how hard it is to leave a home that we love, even if it is for bigger and better things. I know you will make new memories in the next place, but it is bittersweet leaving home. Wishing you the best of luck in the move! Stacy

Good luck with your move. Makes me a little sad. We’re considering moving but not for a couple of years but I know I will be overcome with emotions when the day comes.

Sweet post. I’ve moved several times and I always tell my Mister that I want to build a house filled with all my favorite things from each house! Good luck with your move.

One does get so attached to a home so I know what you mean. I felt extremely sad when I sold my flat in Brighton. One day you’ll feel the same about the property you are moving to !
Good luck with the rest of the packing and the move itself xx

We are feeling the same way right now. We are leaving our home after 18 years and it is very hard. It has to be done, it is what is best for our little family. I can’t wait to see the new place and hopefully you will make some special memories there.

I know how you feel. Moving is exciting but sad too. I usually concentrate on the exciting part – getting to the new house, unpacking all of your favorite things and finding new special spots for them, making it YOUR HOME! New adventures and memories are to be had! New experiences to be enjoyed! New special things about your new home to be discovered! You’re staying in the same area, aren’t you? The security of being some place you know will help and, just between you and me, if you took a little division of that lily of the valley… Read more »
