Outside Door Color

Ooooh, I’m so excited about today’s post!  Have you guessed what color we’ve painted the front door?!?

Andy Lane (AJ Lane Painting) and his crew have been hard at work on our home.  They painted all the trim and the front door.

You may remember that I shared with you a couple of fun front doors a few weeks ago:

Many of you know me so well….

It had to be blue….

After careful consideration and a few trips to Hingham Lumber to chat with my friends, Katharine and Dianne.  I decided on Benjamin Moore Buxton Blue.  It is part of Benjamin Moore’s historic line.  I love fun, bright colors, but for our 1927 home I wanted something classic and period.  Living by the sea, I wanted the hint of the ocean.

What do you think?  Isn’t it a dreamy blue?  You know what?  It is so me!    I had to pull the screen back so you could see the full color.  It is painted in a high gloss and I simply love it.

I didn’t just stop at the door though.  I also painted the shutters!

They were originally black plastic and I didn’t think they could be painted, but they can.  Andy and his crew did such a wonderful job.

We went from a pale yellow door and black shutters to happy Buxton Blue.  Whenever I look at the color, I can’t help but smile.

Thought you might want a side by side of the before & after:

What do you think?

Looks really nice, a smaller change as the shutters and door can make such a difference. Nice changes and thanks for sharing with us. 🙂

Love it, so beautiful! I will be honest, I didn’t even notice the shutters before, they faded into the house. Now I love the way they “pop”.

Your home is absolutely beautiful! Jealous!

I love the wood shingle siding (I haven’t a clue the real name for it) It’s beautifully earthy against the blue you’ve chosen. Which I also love.

We’ve got horrid awning above all the windows around our home. I love that they keep the house cool. Hate that they’re ugly. I’ve considered painting them as a compromise, I think I’ll add this color to my “considering” list. Thanks for introducing us! haha.

Thank you so much! It is called cedar shingle. I think in some parts of the country they call it shake. I’m so glad you’re adding this color to the list. I don’t think you’ll be unhappy with it. x

Love it!! It’s funny because I painted my front door this weekend too and when I saw your color I thought that it looked very similar to mine. I did Ben Moore in St. Lucia. I love the Buxton Blue too! (and I love that name)

Love the blue color for a coastal home! Did you know that in days gone by a blue door meant the a single woman of marriageable age lived there. According to Miss Willie written by Janice Holt Giles.

Your house looks so wonderful…you took it from a good house to a great house. I love the way the blue shutters just open up the windows. It belongs in a magazine as a before and after for sure! Just beautiful.

The blue is picture perfect and you have inspired me to take the leap…I think it will be just 1 or 2 shades lighter…but Blue wins for sure! Your house is fabulous : ) hugs and tfs!
