Painting A Chevron Table
Is there anything happier than chevron?
Well, yes, perhaps yellow chevron is a little happier.
Today, I’m going to share with you how to make this happy table! I left Haven with this amazing Chevron “Shape Tape” by FrogTape. As you know, I LOVE my FrogTape and use it on many furniture projects.
I just knew that the Shape Tape and Annie Sloan’s new color, English Yellow, would be a perfect match. I mean Annie’s color is like sunshine in a can. I was so happy to pop that can open:
Oh, hang on. I’m getting a bit ahead of myself. You perhaps want to see the before:
I had previously painted this mid-century modern table in Linen White. She looks fine, but not happy. Am I right?!?
The first step was to paint her in English Yellow. I did a few coats of this. Then I waited 24 hours before applying my Chevron Shape Tape.
This special Shape Tape has a backing on it and you need to attach the top half first and once pressed down you affix the bottom half. Since I wanted my chevron equal distances I used the paper backing as a template.
This Shape Tape was so amazing and easy to use. If I stuck it down and decided I needed to shift it a smidge that was easily done.
I knew I just wanted the chevron on the top of the table so I used regular Delicate Surfaces FrogTape around the edge of the table.
Then I painted the exposed areas (a bit hard to see as the table is yellow too) in Annie Sloan Pure White.
I was so worried to peel back the tape….
But I shouldn’t have been. My chevron were so beautiful – clean, straight and no bleed! I was HAPPY and now so is my table:
See those perfectly HAPPY chevrons?!?
I also added a tiny bit of white to the circle at the bottom of the table. Then sealed the whole piece with two coats of clear wax.
We were all happy how this one turned out.
What a fun, happy makeover!

I saw this tape at Lowes last week and now I’m inspired too try it out
Ila, you should! It was a wonderful product to use. Can’t wait to see how your project comes out. x
How fun! I’m trying to figure out which piece in my house wants to be happy so I can try out that wonderful chevron frog tape. 😀
Can’t wait for you to try the chevron tape and can’t wait to see your newly happy piece of furniture. x
I keep seeing Frog Tape adverts over here, though not the chevron one, what a clever idea. Love the finished table.
This little table is looks so happy! I really like the chevron pattern on top and love the ease of the FrogTape. I’d be delighted (and so would our readers) if you linked this up to our All Things Thursday Blog Hop this week. Hope to see you and your adorable little table there!
Blessings,
Nici

Amazing job! I would love to include this in a roundup I am putting together, which will be posted on my blog. I will just grab a picture and give you a link back. If you’d prefer that I didn’t use this project, please email me at [email protected]
Those frog tape people are rather clever! They must read a lot of blogs and know that chevron is very popular! … Your table is darling! Love the yellow!
so pretty Danielle. what do you mean you used the back as a template? you just placed it to see where you wanted the next stripe to be, then you put the actual tape there? thx. I have the perfect little side table to try this on. nice job!
Elaine, take the white backing you peel off the tape and use that as the template so that it is the same width and keeping the same pattern. So the white backing is lined up to where the “white” goes and then the next spot of tape will go where the yellow stripe will be above the backing tape. Does that make sense?
not sure danielle! i will re-read directions when i am ready to do the painting and they probably will! call me slow!!!
I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE it!!!! : ) hugs…
