Pool Progress – Grading and Tiling
It’s time for some more pool progress!
Can you believe it’s week 4 of our pool construction? It really is amazing to watch it all coming together. Our dogs and boys (and our neighborhood love watching the progress). I’ve had so many people ask me more about the pool company and say they’re thinking of putting a pool in themselves. The other question we’re getting is, “When is the pool gonna be ready?” Even the UPS guy asked me the other day. Ha! Ha!
We were told by Brett at South Shore Gunite that the process can be 6 to 8 weeks depending on weather and other variables. We haven’t had the best spring and we’ve had LOADS of rain.
Anyway, week 4 brought a mini digger to grade the yard and the pool tiles were installed. The crew from South Shore Gunite was here bright and early & the tiling took until dusk. The guys work so hard and are all so nice.
Before I show you the progress. I wanted to share the color scheme for the pool. This was hard, but Luke and I agreed unanimously on our selection.
Here’s what we’re going with:
I wanted to keep the pool very natural and influenced by nature. I know one wouldn’t naturally have a sculpted pool in their yard but I wanted this to look as natural as possible. When looking at the yard, I want attention to be drawn to the pool but don’t want ones’ eye to focus on just the tiles or the patio. We selected aggregate for the decking in twilight (bottom sample). It has a lot of blues and grays (which you all know are the colors I love). The middle tile is the waterline tile and the top selection is the pebble matrix that will be in the pool. We went with North Shore Caribbean Satin Matrix by Wet Edge Technologies for the color interior. You can see it inside a pool here:
I wanted to know if the pebble finish could go all the way up the side of the pool but the pebble finish needs to be submerged in water so I selected a very neutral blue tile that has specks of brown.
The first step in tiling was to put a level banding around the pool so they could make sure the tile was level.
Then the tiles were installed.
I really love the muted blue. You can see it close up here:
While they were tiling. The yard was also being graded. Our yard maybe looks flat in photos but it wasn’t truly flat and the level had to come up to the pool and then the gradually grade the land off. It’s really important that water can run away from the pool, especially in winter, if not it can cause cracking to the gunite or the tile.
So now it’s really beginning to feel like we have a pool! Especially now that the yard is level and the tile is in place.
They finished tiling at dusk and plastered around the top edge. This photo is a little dark because the sun was going down but you get the idea:
Next will be the deck forms and the decking and then moving the she shed!
Do you like the color selection? I hope you’re enjoying this process as much as we are.
