Pool Progress – Gunite
The hole in our yard is really starting to resemble a pool! Today I wanted to share more pool progress. It’s time for gunite!
Week 3 of our pool brought the moment we’d all been waiting for: the gunite!
This was a really exciting day and I’m so excited to share it with you.
South Shore Gunite Pools arrived bright and early.
Our driveway and street were filled with trucks. First the guys set up by putting up a temporary framing for the gunite and also covered all our bushes and the She Shed with protective tarps.
They had two hoses running from our home to feed the water into the nozzle to mix with the sand and cement.
A dry sand and cement mix came off the truck was pumped to the nozzle.
It really was so cool to watch the whole process and I’m not sure you can get the full idea just from photos, so I thought I’d make a video to go with this post. Watch it here:
Above you can see the swim out bench taking shape. The gunite took the entire day. The crew doubled in size in the afternoon, so there were many people working on our pool.
Shaping gunite is such an art form. Conor and I were mesmerized watching. Here, the steps to the pool are being sculpted.
Don’t the tools look like giant razor blades?
The SSGP crew did such an amazing job. All the guys were so sweet to our boys too, answering all their questions.
After the gunite was finished, we started watering it the next day. We were told to water the gunite for 7 days to prevent the gunite from curing too quickly. Our boys were so excited to “help” water with the hose and squirt guns.
These two are really excited for the pool and swimming this summer.

This is so interesting to watch. So glad you are sharing it. The boys seem to be really digging it!
