Retro Kitchen Ideas (that also make great gifts)

Living in an historic home, I’m drawn to timeless pieces for the home. Today I thought it would be fun to share some Retro Kitchen Ideas (that also make great gifts).

I was scrolling through Amazon back in August looking for Luke’s birthday gift, we got him a SMEG Toaster which we and he loves, but I was so surprised by all the retro and vintage style appliances and kitchen decor they had on there.

Some of these we have in our own home like the bread bin and the toaster and some I’m swooning over.

When I think of retro, I think pastel shades, chrome, fun fonts, happy colors and instantly a smile appears on my face. Any of these would make any kitchen a little bit more happy.

Aren’t these fabulous? Let’s chat about them. I’ll start at the top.

As you can see from our kitchen image above, we own the Creative Co-Op White Enamel Bread Bin. I searched high and low and antique fairs and thrift stores for a real vintage one and couldn’t find anything. Then I started thinking about how we’d be putting food and bread that we eat in there so I opted for this new version that looks old. I LOVE this bin. My boys eat lots of bread. We have bagels, wraps, bread for sandwiches and toast. It started looking so messy on the counter or under our little island. With this bread box I can just throw it all in there!

Ever since I lived in the UK, I’ve been in love with SMEG Fridges. They are quite popular there. Isn’t this cream version adorable. They have a retro look and come in all different pastel shades. The only draw back with this one is there isn’t much room for ice cream or frozen pizza. I kind of have my heart set on one when we do the kitchen over.

What’s better than a cup of joe in the morning? Maybe a coffee maker that has a splash of aqua with it! You all know how I feel about this color.

This jadeite cake stand is a stunner. I actually have his exact one. It’s perfect for serving cakes or pies or pretty cupcakes but is also lovely showcase decor.

Oooooh, another SMEG fridge, but this one is mint AND has a freezer. Um, yup, it’s gorgeous. They also have this fridge with a union jack but I think that might be taking it a little too far. Even for us.

We just got this SMEG toaster for Luke in August and LOVE it. I realize it’s a little pricey but it does 4 slices at a time and each is toasted to perfection. Bagels come out great too and there is a special setting for frozen. For years we had a really cheap two slice toaster and one day I looked inside to find that it was broken inside. Thankfully we didn’t have a fire, but shortly after I ordered this for Luke. We have the mint green one but it looks more green in person. In the photo online it is more aqua green.

This retro drugstore soda foundation drink maker would be so much fun for milkshakes or malts. I think it would also be a great way to start the day with a fruit smoothie. A bonus is that it sure is pretty to look at too.

This cream kitchen clock is dreamy from the pretty shade to the fun retro font. I also think it would look fabulous in an office or a kid’s bedroom.

Last but certainly not least, is this gorgeous pendant light. I LOVE the green shade. It reminds me of British racing green. This would stand out with white subway tiles or shiplap.

I hope you enjoy this post on retro style. Do you have a favorite? Are there any your adding to your Christmas list? I’m dying for a SMEG fridge but I’m gonna have to wait until we redo the kitchen which won’t be for a few years. For now I’ll enjoy my bread bin and toast and am sure I’ll add more retro goodness to our kitchen before we do it over.
