Samsung Frame TV

Christmas came early to our house – we’re talking Christmas in July early! This TV that doubles as art has been on my Christmas wish list for years! I’m so excited to share more about the Samsung Frame TV.

I first want to say this isn’t sponsored by Samsung in anyway. We bought our TV and the corresponding elements ourselves on Amazon. I wanted to be able to give you my true unbiased look at this TV.

You can see it in the background of this photo. You all said you wanted more information in my mantel styling post.

The Samsung Frame TV

Okay, I’ve wanted this TV for years and years. Each year it would be on my wish list AND each Christmas would come and go, but this summer I pleaded with Luke. I expected him to say no, but he said yes! YAY! Yes, I’m shouting. It was a really good deal during Amazon Prime Days but it’s an even better deal right now.

We bought the 55″ inch Samsung Frame TV. It’s currently on sale for 35% off making it $977.99 I know that even at that price it’s an investment. We went with the teak bezel. Here you can see the teak bezel package.

We went with the modern teak bezel because I thought it would compliment the beautiful white oak coffee table Luke built me and I also thought it would go with our coastal setting and let the artwork be the focal point.

Why The Frame TV

What most interested me in this TV was that it looks like art hanging on your wall when you’re not watching TV. I LOVE TV – we’re always watching movies or documentaries at night but during the day we’re busy working or making or painting. So I’d always hate seeing the black box on the wall. Now, I come in the house and look in the living room and see the beautiful photograph Luke took of our weekend getaway to Martha’s Vineyard.

Yes, you read that right! You can put your own images on the TV as art! Isn’t that cool, but if you don’t have any you like the Frame comes with some free images and they also have plans where you can subscribe to get unlimited art. Here’s a peek at the menu:

Hundreds of choices on their media page. One that I love that’s free is the dynamic mountains, this changes lighting and weather with time of day and current weather conditions. So if it’s raining or snowing it rains or snows in the photo.

We didn’t know that the photo did this so it was quite surprising and fun!

Other Reasons We LOVE the Frame TV

  • Beautiful art that compliments our living room
  • Wonderful picture quality when the TV is on. I feel like we’re at the movies
  • The matte screen really makes it feel like art!
  • The matte screen also means there is no glare if you’re watching TV in the daytime
  • It was pretty easy to install. I say that but Luke installed it. I’ll share more below.
  • It came with an easy mounting guidelines (but we ended up having to do something different)
  • For installation, you plug everything in and it is ready to go – the TV detects all your media
  • Its a single narrow cable going from the box to the TV so if you don’t hide cables in the wall its almost invisible.
  • Bezel clips on so you can easily change if you want to change the frame style

Mounting the TV to the Wall

The Frame TV comes with an ultra thin fixed mount. This is wonderful if you don’t want to move the TV at all, but since we have a sectional we like to pull the TV out a bit at night so Luke can see it from his side of the couch too. We also like to tilt it, as well.

We tried Samsung’s Full Motion Slim TV Wall Mount but what we didn’t realize was that it needed to be centered on studs. I think this would be fine if you live in a new built house but studs are not centered due to the old home charm. Ha! Ha! This is the the TV mount we went with.

That’s it pulled out with the TV and screen off. This mount isn’t as slim as the Samsung mount but has a wider range of motion and is more forgiving with the position of the studs.

More About Art for The Samsung Frame

Here is is in the living room with Luke’s photograph. We just got our Christmas tree but haven’t started decorating yet.

I thought I’d show you what it looks like in here with a few different types of art and sources.

This one is available under the plan. We haven’t signed up for the media plan but it lets you try out some designs for free. In our home I think I like photographs or vintage paintings / illustrations the best!

Since the holidays are swiftly approaching I thought it would be fun to try something winter-y.

This winter scene is also available under the media plan. I love seeing the energetic brush strokes. My one biggest dislike with the Frame TV is the color of the white mat for some reason against our creamy white walls it either looks pink or gray but now white.

I’m still trying to figure out if there is a way to get other mats that might work better. If, and when, I find one I will update this post with a link. If any of you at home have an answer please let us know in the comments.

Here’s a close up of what I’m talking about:

More Art and Frames for your TV

Want more options? No problem! Here are a few places that I love the art and frames.

  • Marian over at Miss Mustard Seed is offering some of her paintings for the Frame TV and she’s only charging $1.50 which is a bargain for art for your living room.
  • Hillary over at the Green Barn Studio has some fun vintage paintings for the Frame TV and she’s priced them at $1.99 which is another bargain. I love her art historian background and her artwork.
  • You can also create your own Frame TV artwork using royalty free public domain art. Many sites offer free downloads including National Gallery of Art, Raw Pixels, Moma UK.

What about different frames? If you want to change the whole look of your artwork the frame can play a big part. Samsung offers many bezel options from white or black, colored and wood like effects.

Deco Frames has so many ornate gold, to barn wood and so much more. I haven’t ordered from them but I’m tempted if we want to change the look of our TV in time.

Beautiful! We just ordered the Frame TV from Sam’s and awaiting its arrival. I’ve been wanting it forever and the anti glare screen is what finally got my husband on board. We are trying to decide on a mount. It’s for our master bedroom over our fireplace. Our mounting is tricky in that we have a recessed area which is great for the box to go, but have to find a mount that will work. Thanks for sharing the art sources! Will also look at your mount.

Today people are used to walking into Walmart and getting a large screen TV for $400 or half that price. I am old enough to remember when as newly weds my husband and I splurged for Christmas and got a console TV that was almost $500 and that was more than our house payment. Years later we bought the big monstrosity TV that cost $1000 and it too was more than our new house payment. All of this is to say that some people bulk at the price of the Frame TV but in today’s world with average houses costing… Read more »
