Scituate Staycation
Sometimes vacationing close to home has its perks. Rather than going away we stayed home last week. Read more about our Scituate Staycation.
We were supposed to go away with our boys for April vacation week to a little island in Mexico. A place we’d never been before. We were going to stay right on the beach, walk amongst flamigoes, and swim with skates. We were going to visit Mayan ruins and eat lots of Mexican food, but as you can imagine we had to cancel our vacation (like many of you did, too). So this year we decided to stay home for our vacation and experience our sweet little coastal town with fresh eyes.
We slept in, ate delicious home cooked meals (by Conor), celebrated Luke’s birthday twice, had beach picnics, ate sushi and lobster, and just had the BEST time! My family are my favorite people so being anywhere with them is the place I want to be.
I know many of who read the blog live in Scituate or the surrounding towns so I thought I’d share some highlights to give you some ideas close to home. For those of you who live across the US or around the world I thought you might want to see our sweet little New England town. You guys may have seen some of these photos on Insta Stories.
The Spit
It took us many years to visit The Spit. I think we’d lived in Scituate for about 7 years before journeying to The Spit with the boys. When they were younger we used to take inflatable kayaks there because you need a boat to get there.
Well, you do or you could walk from 3rd Cliff. There’s a little boardwalk you can walk across.
The Spit is my favorite beach. It feels so magical. At high tide the beach disappears but at low tides it stretches on for miles and miles. If you squint you’ll see that is Luke and the boys walking ahead of me.
We love to pack a picnic lunch and stay for the whole day.
We arrived when the tide was high and watched the ocean disappear. It’s so cool because you can walk way out in the water because it stays shallow for so long.
It’s amazing to watch the clouds and also all the birds.
We went mid-week and had most of the beach to ourselves. I love how quiet it is.
Breakfast at The Voyage
The Voyage is a full service restaurant that also has outside dining and an ice cream stand.
Luke loves it because he can get a full Irish breakfast which is very similar to an English breakfast.
Conor decided to order a bunch of sides so he had the leftovers the next day for breakfast. He’s such a foodie!
Humarock
Humarock Beach used to be connected to Scituate, but now you have to drive through Marshfield to get there. It’s a gorgeous ride and feels like you’re in the middle of country side with water views.
Humarock Beach is a long stretch of sandy beach. It actually feels like your on Cape Cod when you’re at this beach.
It’s a fun beach to look for oyster shells and skipping rocks.
Spotted the flag on the beach and just thought it was so pretty sitting amongst the rocks waving in the ocean breeze.
Of course, you can’t come to Humarock and not get an ice cream. I was so happy to have a 99 with a flake from The Voyage. It reminded me of living in England.
Family Dinners on our Back Deck
We love being at home – swimming in the pool or eating on the back deck. For a pre-birthday dinner Conor made Luke a meatball supper and it was so delicious!
I shared the recipe on IG Stories but happy to share it on the blog, too. Let me know if you guys would like to learn to make my mom’s meatballs 😉
Strolling Scituate Harbor
We love to walk the harbor. We walk our dogs every day and also love to go for walks in the evening. Here’s a view with some very cool clouds:
Sushi in the Harbor
We actually walked down to dinner in harbor for Luke’s birthday.
We sat outside at Salt Society which is a brand new restaurant that just opened! They have a great menu – sushi, salads, sandwiches, grilled fish, and a raw bar.
We got the Thai Curry Mussels, Buffalo Cauliflower, and Edamame to start.
Conor had a Bento Box for dinner while Luke, John, and I ate sushi.
It was sooooo good. I loved the California Rolls and the Shrimp Tempura Rolls.
While Luke LOVED the Red Dragon Rolls.
I can’t wait until life gets back to normal as I’d love to sit inside on their cozy Chesterfield sofa and sip a fancy cocktail. We’re currently trying to only eat outside at restaurants.
Pretty Flowers
On Saturday morning we drove over to Norwell to Summer Stone Flower Company. My friend Mollie grows her own flowers and makes the prettiest arrangements. You need to book ahead but she has lovely Dahlias and Zinnias.
You all know how happy flowers make me!
Green Harbor
Okay, this is technically not Scituate, but we made our first trip to Green Harbor and felt like we were miles away from home.
I probably should have checked the weather before planning a lobster dinner at Green Harbor Lobster Pound.
The heavens opened just as we were digging into our lobster and french fries.
The lobster meat was so tender and the regular portion was HUGE. I can’t imagine what the jumbo looks like! We sat there eating our dinner in the rain, while everyone else sat in their dry cars. What can I say Luke’s English and our kids are half English! The rain got pretty heavy though.
I told Luke he has to take me back there on a “date night” before they close for the season.
Wine by the Fire Pit
Back to our own backyard. We enjoyed many evenings by the fire pit sipping wine and toasting marshmallows.
We may not have gotten the fancy destination vacation, but we got what we needed. Time together. I’m so grateful for this little family and this little town.

Danielle, you brought back so many memories of summers spent in Brant Rock at a tiny trailer belonging to my best friend. I think it was called Blackman’s point. Summer days at Humarock Beach; visiting Green Harbor and the surrounding area. Although it isn’t Cape Cod, we always called it “going to the Cape.” The ocean made it “the cape” for us.
Thanks for sharing your staycation. The pictures are wonderful.
Judy, I loved reading your comments. What lovely memories you have of this area. You know, I do think so many parts of the South Shore remind me of the Cape.
How wonderful! Great even if you could go off to an island…we are doing similar here in Vermont!
So nice! We’d love to visit more of Vermont in time. Where would you recommend?
t There are so many great areas in Vermont. Depends on the season and how far you want to travel. I live in the central part of the state and there is great hiking and mountain biking and small lakes. Up North, Burlington area, you have big lakes, great food and cultural events as well as museums. Being a college town there is just so much to do. At the bottom of the state, Brattleboro and Bennington are both unique. Throw in all the small quaint towns like Middlebury and Woodstock and there is something for everyone. not to mention… Read more »
Wow, your town and surrounding area are so beautiful. Looks like you guys had a great time! I love seafood, so that lobster had me drooling. Btw, not sure if you’ve ever noticed it, but your hubby reminds me a bit of Gerard Butler!
Hi Tracy, our town really is such a lovely place. We have so many beautiful beaches, shops, and restaurants. Oh my goodness, Luke is going to get such a big head. Ha! Ha!
Looks like an absolutely lovely time! Beautiful scenery, great food, and spending time together. Hard to beat that!

Yes, a really love week at home!
I loved the picture with the clouds reflected so perfectly on the water!!
It was such a beautiful day that we walked to the Spit. The clouds looked like cotton candy suspended in the sky.
Sounds like heaven to me! Glad you enjoyed it so much.
We really enjoyed our time together. So glad I could share some photos on the blog.
Love your blue and white striped beach coverup. Could you share the brand? Thanks so much
