Our Seaside Life
It was our dream to live by the sea.
In Scituate.
I’m not sure if you all know this. Luke and I quit our jobs in London with nothing on the horizon here in the states except a dream and a promise from my parents that we could stay as long as we needed.
If you look hard enough, you can see the home that was my parents’ the one with the tan roof, white fence and blue shingle.
We spent many days searching for sea glass on this beach (known as Museum Beach) not knowing what was in store for us and wondering if we’d made the right decision.
Delicious meals on the deck. I can smell the grilled chicken as if it was right in front of me as I type this.
Evening walks to the lighthouse or TKs for a margarita or two…
Many moments treasured.
It took us a WHOLE summer to find jobs, but first we needed to move away from Scituate. Away from our dream.
Only to realize, this little seaside town had our heart. We longed for the salt air, the sand between our toes and those margaritas in the harbor.
Now ten years on, two beautiful boys, one lovely dog and our dream house in the harbor and it seemed right to document this moment before the boys grow any bigger…
My good friend Kjeld Mahoney captured these gorgeous photos of our family on this beach (where we now take the kids and dog) to search for treasures.
Kjeld has such an amazing talent. His images of Scituate are breathtaking and can be seen in his gallery in the harbor and on his site.
So I wasn’t surprised when he captured my children perfectly
with their sweet smiles and cheeky personalities. They shared a cuddle
and larked about on the beach:
This life of ours’ is a gift. I know this.
I try not to take this love and these boys and this place for granted.
I try to hold on tight. To inhale the beauty of it all. The salt air, the sun on our faces, the boats setting sail for an adventure.
We dreamed of raising our family here. My boys have this salt air in their veins. In the summer months they swim like fish. When they were little, they mimicked the sound of sea gulls rather than farm animals.
This was our dream and we found it and treasure it like the sea glass scattered on the sand.
Thank you so much to Kjeld for capturing these beautiful moments. I will treasure these images forever. Thank you all for stopping by each day to visit us, you continue to make my dreams come true.
