A Seaside Light

After: A Nautical Light

John’s old lamp had broken quite a while ago.  I can’t remember exactly what happened to it.  It was so sweet.  A little red buoy I’d picked up at Sylvia’s by the Sea in Scituate Harbor.  But John must have been doing something, as boys do, and the light broke.  I saved the shade, but had yet to find the perfect lamp.  Then I remembered the old lamp I had up in the attic that I was given:

Before

We don’t need to be nice about this lamp – too ornate, too gold, and just too much going on with the shade.  It is a heavy metal lamp and I thought, hmmm, why not try chalk paint on it?

I did one coat of chalk paint in Old White and then waxed it to protect it.  The paint was still wet in this picture:
I took the original shade with dangly bits to Take It or Leave It at the dump to find a new home (well, someone might like it!).   Then, I used the original shade from John’s broken buoy lamp and got the hot glue gun out and stuck on tiny star fish, tiny sand dollars, periwinkle shells and a sea horse.
And here is the finished seaside light in his room:
What do you think?  Beachy chic and perfect for a little boy who loves the sea!

That is SOOOO cute – Griffin would peel that starfish off by the end of the week. Sophia loves it too – “I want that” !

That is such a cute lamp, Danielle! I love the seahorse! Nice reuse of the old lamp, too.
