Seaside Treasures in the Living Room
Happy Thursday, friends! I wanted to pop in to say hello and share a few seaside treasures in the living room.
I am happiest by the sea. I love strolling on the beach, in any season, even when it’s raining. Since moving to Scituate, my favorite pasttime is combing the beach for treasures. I love walking with the dog and boys and searching for pretty shells and sea glass. Over the winter holidays my mom gave me a beautiful glass bowl filled with shells she’s collected and also the most beautiful blue bottle she got in Bermuda.
For years, I’ve gazed at this beautiful blue bottle in her home, mesmerized.
It’s the color of the sea. That perfect, happy blue.
Everything about decorating and design I learned from my mom. She has such a wonderful way of displaying pretty objects. I placed this bowl of seaside treasures our table and it looks perfect!
She probably didn’t even realize how much this gift meant to me. That’s the thing, my mom is just wonderful person, she’s always giving of herself and her possessions. The kind of person if you say you like her necklace and she’d take it off and give it to you. I hope this generosity is in me, and our little boys.
Before Christmas we got a new sectional. You can read that post here. I am just as IN LOVE with this couch as when we bought it. It’s been the perfect addition to our home for movie nights with the kids or date nights in (Luke and I both stretched out in our designated spots). We also added the fireplace which is just amazing. You can read all about that here.
I shared some ways we like to keep cozy with these cold, winter months by the sea here:
A few readers were asking about the new sectional. When could they see more photos???? What did we think of it??? Were we still happy with WHITE????
Then, I realized I’d only been showing you this side of the couch. I’m so sorry about that. I didn’t mean to keep you hanging. Ha! Ha! Oh, speaking of hanging, we hung our TV. I’ll write a separate post all about that, but I think it makes the TV look better and more streamlined.
For those asking here are some photos of the couch!
It is the MOST comfortable couch I’ve ever sat on.
I’m still loving the white slipcovers despite Max’s decision that this another Max bed. When I go out he actually sits on top of the cushions and looks out the window (on guard). During the day, and when it’s snowy or muddy, I place the faux fur throws on the seats just to prevent any dirty paws prints. I vaccuum it whenever I have the vacuum out for the floors. I used to vacuum our Chesterfield too because of all the tufting. I’m thinking I will soon have to take the covers off and wash the couch.
Part of the reason, I’ve been waiting to show off more of the couch is our coffee table is currently too big. You can’t really tell in these photos but Luke’s gonna build me a new coffee table. He’s currently building himself a workbench but my coffee table is “next in the queue”. So fingers crossed, I’ll have one to share this spring. It’s gonna be white oak and very coastal!
I’ll actually be spending a lot of time on the couch as I’m having eye surgery later today and have been instructed that I’ll need to go home and sleep and probably take things easy for the next few days. I’m not sure if you guys are aware but I have very bad vision. I’ve worn glasses and contacts to correct my vision since the 7th grade. I’m -7.5 in both eyes. Yikes!!! It’s a very, very strong prescription. I can’t even see the alarm clock in the morning. When we first had John I used to sleep with my glasses on for fear that he’d have SIDS. I had some tests done with my eye doctor to see if I’d be a good candidate for Lasik and I’m having PRK today. My corneas were not thick enough for Lasik but are good for PRK. The surgery I’m having has a longer recovery. My eyes will be very sensitive so things are probably gonna be quiet on the blog and social media. My boys are off from school for vacation next week too. As I write this I’m a little nervous about having the surgery as I worry I won’t be able to see, but I know it’s the right decision. I would be grateful for your thoughts and prayers. I hope you all have a wonderful week and I’ll be back online soon xx
